Point provides scholars with financial support, leadership and career development, and a lifelong community of students, alumni, and leaders in every field and industry.

Point’s mission is to support the educational aspirations of LGBTQ+ and ally students to become impactful leaders in their lives, careers, and communities.  Point is proud to be a top-rated nonprofit by watchdog groups including Charity Navigator, GuideStar, and the Better Business Bureau.

We pursue excellence in all we do and are building for scale - growing the number of scholars we serve, expanding leadership and career development opportunities, and innovating the systems and technology that let a nimble team reach further every year.

Position Overview

Point Foundation seeks a hands-on, systems-minded Director of Development Operations to serve as the engine behind the Development team's fundraising success. This is a builder role - someone who can zoom out to shape a forward-looking and AI-powered technology roadmap and zoom back in to troubleshoot a broken integration before it slows the team down. The Director will own the full technical infrastructure that powers fundraising at Point. Partnering closely with the Chief Development Officer on the day-to-day, and with the Sr. Director, Technology & Systems on strategy and the buildout of the technical roadmap, this person will be both the engineer of Point's fundraising technology stack and the hands-on operator who keeps it running.

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Status: Full time, exempt

Supervises: One associate-level direct report

Location: Remote position based in the greater Los Angeles area. Occasional in-person meetings and events require candidates to be located in, or willing to relocate to, the L.A. area. Relocation assistance is available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Database, Data Integrity & Reporting Oversight - own overall accountability for the donor database, including data integrity standards, hygiene, reporting, and analytics. Direct staff on day-to-day data work while remaining hands-on with complex reporting, troubleshooting, and data strategy as needed.
  • Data Governance & Compliance - establish and enforce Development-specific policies for donor data privacy, security, and user access permissions, in line with organization-wide standards set by the Sr. Director, Technology & Systems, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and PCI standards across all fundraising platforms.
  • Fundraising Analytics & Reporting - build dashboards, KPIs, and revenue forecasts that give the Chief Development Officer, gift officers, and leadership clear visibility into pipeline, portfolio performance, and progress toward goals.
  • Platform & Vendor Management - serve as the primary owner of the Development team's technology stack, including Fundraise Up, iWave, and other giving and prospect research platforms; manage related vendor relationships and design and maintain integrations between Development systems and those used by Finance, Marketing, and Programs, ensuring data flows accurately and consistently across the organization.
  • Technology Strategy & Roadmap -
partner with the Sr. Director, Technology & Systems and the Director, Program Operations to plan and launch Point’s CRM strategy, and develop a forward-looking roadmap for the Development team’s technology needs that integrates within the organization's overall technology roadmap, including evaluating new tools and platform upgrades.
  • AI & Emerging Technology - harness AI and emerging technologies to increase efficiency, automation, and outcomes across Development operations, identifying high-value use cases, piloting and implementing new tools, and ensuring responsible use that safeguards donor data.
  • Gift Processing, Acknowledgment & Revenue Operations -
oversee staff responsible for gift entry, processing workflows, and revenue reconciliation in partnership with the Finance Team, ensuring accuracy and compliance with data standards. Oversee timely, accurate gift acknowledgments and tax receipts, ensuring donor documentation meets IRS requirements and Point's stewardship standards.
  • Campaign & Event Operations - support appeals, campaigns, and events through list segmentation, appeal and campaign coding, and integration of registration and giving data into the donor database.
  • Process Improvement & Team Enablement -
train and support Development staff on system use, troubleshoot user issues, and continuously refine processes to reduce manual work and improve data quality across the team.
  • Documentation & Standard Procedures - create and maintain documentation for data standards, gift processing procedures, and system configurations so institutional knowledge is preserved and the team can scale.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of development operations, database administration, or fundraising systems experience, including 2+ years in a senior or leadership capacity overseeing staff or systems strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Direct, hands-on experience administering a nonprofit CRM/donor database (e.g., Raiser's Edge), including data integrity management, gift processing and attribution, and report building.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple integrated fundraising platforms (e.g., online giving tools like Fundraise Up, prospect research tools like iWave) as a system owner, not just an end user.
  • Proficiency in building and running reports, queries, and donor/prospect lists from a CRM database to support gift officer portfolios, board reporting, and organizational fundraising analysis.
  • Hands-on experience identifying, piloting, and implementing AI tools to automate workflows and improve data quality, including responsible-use practices that protect sensitive donor data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff to evaluate and identify technology solutions for fundraising needs, including researching, assessing, and recommending new platforms or integrations that address gaps in the Development team's tech stack.
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven, managing multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive organizational and donor information.
  • Passionate about Point's mission and enthusiasm about communicating the organization's philosophy, mission, and values.
  • Commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in all areas of responsibility and across the organization.
  • Preferred: experience with SQL, data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), or advanced reporting/analytics beyond native CRM reporting; experience managing technology vendor relationships and leading system migrations or platform implementations; and experience in nonprofit fundraising specifically, understanding the unique data and reporting needs of a development shop.

Core Competencies - Our Ways of Working

  • Ownership: Owns outcomes, not just tasks. Follows through on commitments or proactively resets expectations and raises issues early and directly.
  • Learn & Adapt: Stays curious and self-aware. Seeks feedback, reflects on impact, and applies learnings as conditions change.
  • Focus & Excellence: Prioritizes the highest-impact work, delivers consistent high-quality results, and makes tradeoffs visible and intentional.
  • Trust & Belonging: Builds relationships grounded in respect, honesty, and inclusion. Engages candidly, assumes good intent, and addresses issues constructively.
  • Collaborate for Scale & Growth: Clarifies roles and handoffs, shares information transparently, commits decisions once made, and designs sustainable, repeatable systems over "boutique" solutions.

Compensation and Accommodations

Pay range: $110,000 - $145,000/year.  This role is also eligible for an annual bonus based on performance. Our total compensation goes well beyond salary: Point pays 100% of employee health insurance premiums, with coverage for dependents available at additional cost. Our full benefits package also includes a 403(b)-retirement plan with an employer match of up to 3%.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Accommodations: We want the process to work for you. If you need accommodation at any stage - application, screen, interview, or work sample - tell your recruiter.  We offer accommodations proactively and honor them at any later stage.

The purpose of this job description is to provide an overview of the position. This is not a comprehensive list of duties and responsibilities.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
