As an InsurSec provider, we uniquely combine insurance with mission-critical security technologies, threat intelligence, and human expertise, to bridge the critical security capability gap that exists among SMBs in the community. We believe InsurSec is an $80B market opportunity and we are excited to introduce our Director of Data Mining & CyberSecurity role to the security team in order to help expand our reach and influence in the business and security community, of which we serve 40,000 customers.

About our Digital Forensics and Incident Response team:

This is a foundational hire at At-Bay for a Data Mining expert with managerial experience, who will lead the development of our cyber forensics and threat intelligence capabilities. As the first person in this role, you’ll not only apply advanced data mining, machine learning, and statistical techniques to uncover meaningful insights from cyber risk data—you’ll also have the opportunity to build and lead a team as we scale. You'll make a direct impact on how we model, price, and mitigate cyber risk in one of the most dynamic areas of insurance.

Role overview:

As the Director of Data Mining & Cybersecurity, you will be responsible for building and leading this function from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to design and implement a data-driven program that fuses cybersecurity intelligence with insurance analytics. You’ll architect the strategy, hire and lead a cross-functional team, and develop core capabilities around threat data mining, breach pattern analysis, risk modeling, and post-incident analytics. Working closely with underwriting, actuarial, claims, and security stakeholders, you’ll create scalable systems and models that drive cyber risk assessment, improve loss forecasting, and inform product development—laying the foundation for a long-term competitive advantage in the evolving cyber insurance landscape.

How you’ll make an impact:

By 3 months…

  • Establish foundational data mining processes and frameworks for post-breach cyber incident analysis.
  • Deliver initial machine learning models and actionable insights to improve incident response and risk assessment.
  • Support underwriting with data-driven recommendations that enhance cyber risk evaluation.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with Security Research, Incident Response, and Underwriting teams.
  • Lay the groundwork for scaling the team and expanding cyber threat intelligence capabilities.

By 6 months...

  • Lead the development of standardized workflows for post-breach data analysis and reporting.
  • Start building and mentoring a small team of data analysts and data scientists focused on post-breach threat intelligence.
  • Drive cross-team initiatives to integrate post-breach insights into underwriting and product development strategies.
Establish metrics and dashboards to track the effectiveness of breach analysis and its impact on risk management.
  • Influence technical strategy and resource planning to support the growing cyber forensics and threat intelligence function at At-Bay.

What you’ve accomplished already:

  • Successfully implemented initial data mining models that provide actionable insights into post-breach cyber incidents.
  • Created repeatable, efficient workflows and data pipelines for analyzing breach data at scale.
  • Delivered regular reports and dashboards that inform underwriting and incident response teams.
  • Built foundational relationships across Security Research, Data Science, and Underwriting, fostering strong collaboration.
  • Started recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring team members to expand the post-breach analytics function.
  • Contributed to defining the strategic vision and roadmap for At-Bay’s cyber forensics and threat intelligence capabilities.
  • Certifications such as GIAC Cyber Threat Intelligence (GCTI), Certified Threat Intelligence Analyst (CTIA), MITRE ATT&CK Defender (MAD)

Our estimated base pay range for this role is $180,000-$220,000 per year. Base salary is determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to market data, location, internal equitability, domain knowledge, experiences and skills. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
