The Director of Data & Analytics will lead the data foundation for Airbyte, overseeing data pipelines, BI tools, and internal agent workflows, while supporting product strategy and growth through insights and data infrastructure.

Airbyte is the open‑source standard for data movement. We've enabled data teams to move data from applications, APIs, unstructured sources and databases to data warehouses, lakes, and AI applications. With tens of thousands of connectors built and hundreds of thousands of companies adopting Airbyte, we've proven the economics of data integration at scale. And now Airbyte is building the frontier agentic data infrastructure, purpose-built for AI agents that need fast, accurate access to data across hundreds of sources. Our mission: make data available and actionable, everywhere.

We've raised $181M from the world's top investors (Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, Y Combinator, etc.) and we believe in product-led growth, where we build something awesome that all our users love. We’ve raised enough capital to explore boldly, but we still choose to move quickly, stay scrappy, and experiment constantly as we find the right paths in an AI-native landscape.

The Role:

Airbyte is at an inflection point. Our Data Replication business is growing fast and scaling toward profitability, while we launch our Agentic Data Platform, a new product line that will define the next chapter of the company.

We're looking for a Director of Data & Analytics to own the data foundation that powers both businesses, from pipelines and BI tools to the agents our team queries data through, and the strategic insights that shape how we run the company.

This is also a great opportunity to become, or sharpen your skills as, an AI-native data leader. You'll be building for a world where analysts, operators, and executives interact with data through agents as much as dashboards, and where the line between data infrastructure and AI infrastructure is increasingly blurred.

You'll report to the VP of Finance and GM of Data Replication and partner closely with leaders across both business units.

What You’ll Do:
  • Own the data platform end to end. Pipelines, warehouse, BI tools, and the data layer that powers internal agents and activations. You'll evolve it as our needs grow, and keep it lean and scalable.

  • Shape strategy and decisions. Partner with leaders across the company, bringing sharp insights on usage, growth, retention, and product.

  • Power our internal AI workflows. Our finance team, analysts, and operators increasingly query data through agents. You'll build the structured, well-modeled foundation that makes this reliable, and you'll be at the frontier of what "AI-native analytics" actually looks like in practice.

  • Support the Agentic Data Platform launch with the data infrastructure that the team needs to ship and learn fast.

  • Build the team pragmatically. Balance hiring with external support to stay lean and focused.

What We're Looking For:
  • Strong data engineering chops: SQL, modern warehouse stacks (BigQuery or similar), dbt or equivalent, pipeline orchestration. You can build the system, not just direct it.

  • A track record of being the strategic data voice in the room, translating product and usage data into decisions executives actually act on. Or clear evidence you're ready to step into that role.

  • A strong point of view on simplification. You've built or operated data functions where lean and scalable mattered more than scope.

  • Excellent communication. You can hold your own in a board conversation and write a memo that lands.

  • Curiosity and energy around AI, whether you're already AI-native or excited to get there fast. You see agents, LLMs, and modern AI tooling as a core part of how data teams will work, not a side project.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and pace. Usage-based SaaS, PLG motions, and rapidly evolving product surfaces don't faze you.

Location:
  • Onsite 5 days/week in San Francisco, CA

If you find this role exciting, we encourage you to apply even if you think you don’t meet all of the requirements!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
