CSC Generation is the AI-native holding company re-engineering omnichannel retail. We acquire iconic brands and transform them with Genesis, our operating platform combining a Data Fabric, Automation Engine, proprietary tools, and shared services to modernize operations, elevate customer experience, and expand margins. With $1B+ in revenue across 13 brands, our portfolio includes Sur La Table, Backcountry, One Kings Lane, and others that serve as real-world innovation labs.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Austin, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Toronto, ON, CAN

About the Role

As our Director of Corporate Development, you will serve as the primary architect of CSC Generation's inorganic growth strategy — owning the full M&A lifecycle from sourcing and thesis development through diligence, negotiation, and post-merger integration. This role exists because we are actively expanding our portfolio and need a senior operator who can both build the pipeline and execute against it with speed and rigor.

You will work directly with the CEO and executive team to evaluate strategic partnerships, acquisition targets, and investment opportunities across the retail and consumer landscape. At 6–12 months, success means a structured deal pipeline with clear investment theses, at least one transaction moved through diligence or closed, and integration frameworks that allow acquired brands to plug into the Genesis platform without disruption.

What You'll Do

    Strategy & Pipeline
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and refine CSC Generation's corporate development strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and growth targets.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, competitive threats, and potential investment opportunities within the retail and consumer sectors.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships and alliances that enhance CSC Generation's competitive position, drive revenue growth, and expand market reach.
  • Deal Execution
  • Lead the end-to-end M&A process, including target prioritization, operational and financial due diligence, valuation analysis, negotiation, and deal structuring.
  • Perform financial modeling, valuation analysis, and investment thesis development to evaluate potential acquisition targets and partnership opportunities.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with potential transactions and develop mitigation strategies to protect CSC Generation's interests.
  • Integration & Stakeholder Management
  • Collaborate with operational teams to develop and execute post-merger integration plans, ensuring seamless transition and realization of synergies across the Genesis platform.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, board members, investors, and potential partners.
  • Leadership
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to cross-functional deal teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or management consulting, with a proven track record of executing complex M&A transactions and strategic partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of the retail and consumer industries, with experience evaluating market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and growth opportunities.
  • Strong financial acumen, including proficiency in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and deal structuring.
  • Demonstrated ability to present deal recommendations, investment theses, and risk assessments clearly to executive and board-level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams through ambiguous, high-stakes transactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams across diligence, negotiation, and integration with precision and urgency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience executing acquisitions within e-commerce, omnichannel retail, or consumer brand portfolios.
  • Existing relationships with investment banks, PE firms, or sell-side advisors active in the consumer/retail sector.
  • Experience working within a platform or holding company structure with multiple portfolio brands.
  • Familiarity with technology-enabled operating models or shared-services integration.

Why Join

The people who do best here are builders. They take ownership, move fast, and want to see the direct impact of their work.

  • Direct Impact at the Portfolio Level: You will work alongside the CEO on the deals that define CSC Generation's next chapter.
  • Cross-Functional Exposure: This role gives you full visibility across finance, operations, technology, and brand leadership.
  • True Ownership: You will own the pipeline, the process, and the outcomes.
  • Competitive Benefits (US): Medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), paid time off, and access to discounts across CSC Generation's brand portfolio.
  • Competitive Benefits (Canada): Comprehensive health and dental coverage, paid time off, paid holidays, and generous employee discounts.

Interview Process

    1. Recruiter Screen: A member of our recruiting team will reach out to schedule a 30-minute call to learn more about your background, walk you through the role, and answer your questions about CSC Generation.
    2. Hiring Manager Interview: A focused conversation with the CEO covering your M&A experience, deal philosophy, and how you think about corporate development strategy.
    3. Technical / Case Exercise: You will work through a deal scenario or investment thesis exercise relevant to the role — this helps us understand how you structure thinking and communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders.
    4. Cross-Functional Interviews: Conversations with key stakeholders across finance, operations, and brand leadership to assess collaborative fit and strategic alignment.
    5. In-Person Interview: A final on-site meeting at one of our offices with executive leadership. We want to make sure you experience our team and culture firsthand.
    6. Reference Checks: Conducted in parallel with the final stages.
    7. Offer: We move quickly for the right candidate.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
