Director of Content

Los Angeles, CA

Who We Are

Tower 28 is building a world where beauty is accessible, inclusive, and sensitive. We want to push the boundaries of what beauty should be: a mix of high quality, high standards, and high levels of fun. We want to be a beauty big sister, who knows what’s right (clean, non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free) but also knows how to have a good time (clean beauty doesn’t have to be so serious!).

What You’ll Be Doing

The Director of Content will lead the editorial vision, content architecture, social production, and performance optimization of Tower 28's content across owned and earned channels: social, digital, and creator-driven. This person will own the content calendar end-to-end, translating brand and product priorities into a steady cadence of storytelling that builds affinity and drives conversion, while managing a pipeline of creators, UGC, and in-house production to keep high-volume output without sacrificing brand voice. We are looking for someone who is creative, editorially fluent, comfortable managing production timelines and budgets, and deeply engrained in platform trends and content performance data.

This role will also lead content narrative across platforms and initiatives, driving cultural relevance, community engagement, impactful paid performance and direct commerce.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy, Editorial Vision & Voice

  • Own the content vision, narrative output and editorial strategy for Tower 28 Beauty across all owned channels (social, digital, email/SMS, site), ensuring every piece of content ladders up to brand and business priorities both in words and visual expression.
  • Set content pillars, narrative arcs, and tentpole moments that align with brand campaigns and product launches
  • Craft the words we use to tell our story across all consumer touchpoints, from campaign messaging, product copy, social stories, paid media, email, etc.
  • Build and manage the always-on content calendar, balancing product education, brand storytelling, community engagement, and cultural/trend-driven moments
  • Stay ahead of platform shifts, format trends, and emerging channels, and adjust content strategy in real time to keep Tower 28 culturally relevant and competitive

Production & Creative Execution

  • Lead a high-output content production pipeline by planning and overseeing shoots, from concepting through final cut/edit
  • Partner with Creative on visual direction to ensure content maintains brand identity while flexing for platform-specific best practices
  • Build repeatable content systems/templates (series, formats, franchises) that reduce production lift while keeping content fresh
  • Identify, brief, and manage creator and UGC partnerships that generate authentic, high-performing content and expand organic reach

Performance & Optimization

  • Own content performance reporting by tracking engagement, reach, conversion, and growth metrics across channels
  • Run a test-and-learn approach to content formats, hooks, and channels, doubling down on what performs and killing what doesn't
  • Partner with Paid Media/Growth team to identify organic content with paid potential and vice versa

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with Brand Marketing, Product Development, and Sales to ensure content supports launches, campaigns, and retail moments with the right assets at the right time
  • Serve as the content point of contact for retail and event teams, turning launches, activations, and IRL moments into scalable social/digital content
  • Represent the content lens in brand-wide planning, flagging where content capabilities or platform realities should shape broader marketing decisions

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor content creators, editors, and/or coordinators, setting clear priorities and fostering a culture of creativity and speed
  • Build workflows and processes that let the content team scale output without burning out or losing quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7-9 years of full-time work experience in social media or marketing roles
  • Enthusiasm for scaling brands and social presence in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tell compelling narratives across various channels and contexts
  • Creative mindset and enjoys brainstorming and exploring new ways to bring the brand to life
  • Demonstrated success in growing brand awareness, engagement, and community through content
  • Passion for following consumer and cultural insights
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically, as a hands-on collaborator
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and adapting to shifting priorities
  • Ideally has managed others in the past (associates, coordinators, interns)
  • Strong team player

You Have…

  • Hustle: Resourcefulness, can-try-attitude, out of the box thinking.
  • Ownership: Positive attitude when faced with obstacles and the willingness to develop alternative approaches to overcome them.
  • Analytical Skills: As evidenced by problem solving capabilities and previous ownership of analytical tasks and projects.
  • Cool: Stay calm under pressure, ability to influence, high emotional intelligence
  • Collaborative style: able to work in a fast-paced growth organization, lead teams and work within them in an environment of high change

We Offer

  • Salary range: $145-165k depending on experience
  • Excellent benefits, including healthcare, dental, vision
  • Holidays, vacation, and sick time
  • Summer Fridays and quiet week between Christmas and New Years

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
