The Director of Content Strategy will be responsible for shaping and executing the long-term content vision for NFL Media. This role will oversee the development, programming, and optimization of all NFL Media content across linear and digital platforms—ensuring it aligns with League priorities, engages diverse audiences, and maximizes commercial value.

As the media landscape and audience behaviors rapidly evolve, NFL Media is seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record in building and optimizing content strategies across various digital distribution platforms.

This thought leader will explore new opportunities in production technology, emerging content formats, and innovative product experiences that grow fan engagement, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the NFL’s global brand presence.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Define and implement a comprehensive, multi-platform content strategy that reflects the NFL’s brand, values, and growth objectives.
    • Partner with senior leadership across NFL Media, Marketing, Business Development, Sponsorship, and International teams to align content priorities with League-wide goals.
    • Translate business and fan insights into actionable programming strategies and content investments.
  • Content Programming & Planning
    • Oversee the development of NFL Media’s digital content calendar, ensuring consistent and compelling coverage across the season cycle (regular season, playoffs, offseason, Draft, and Super Bowl).
    • Lead cross-platform digital content planning for live events, studio shows, highlights, original features, and social storytelling.
    • Collaborate closely with Production, Creative, and Talent teams to deliver innovative and audience-centric programming.
    • Monitor portfolio-level performance and provide recommendations on content investment priorities.
    • Spearhead strategic projects for senior NFL Media leaders and develop recommendations on key programming and operational issues, particularly in new business and/or audience development areas.
  • Monetization & Distribution
    • Partner with the Revenue, Partnerships, and Distribution teams to drive commercial impact through strategic content placements, sponsorship integration, and digital rights activation.
    • Identify new opportunities for content syndication, content licensing, and direct-to-consumer engagement.
    • Use performance analytics and audience data to optimize content ROI and guide future investment decisions.
  • Audience Insights & Partnerships
    • Produce impactful insights via analysis of the current sports and entertainment media ecosystem and identify new trends and strategies that can be incorporated into NFL Media planning.
    • Evolve NFL Media’s content strategy for reaching younger, more diverse, and global audiences through digital and emerging platforms.
    • Foster close relationships and develop collaboration opportunities with existing NFL partners who specialize in engaging key demos
    • Identify new partnership opportunities with media brands or production companies, particularly brands that intersect with sports and/or sports fandom, that will help the NFL engage priority audiences
  • Technology & Content Workflows
    • Work across multiple departments and stakeholders to evaluate new technologies that unlock new value for fan engagement, including AI and Gen AI and cloud-based production workflows
    • Champion new storytelling formats and technologies (short-form, interactive video, data-driven storytelling, AR/VR, generative AI).
    • Foster a test-and-learn culture that encourages creative risk-taking and rapid iteration.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Build strong partnerships with internal departments (Broadcasting, Marketing, Communications, and Club Media) and external partners.
    • Guide and develop junior professionals on the NFL business, key skill requirements and career development.
    • Cultivate positive group culture and processes to foster high performance, efficient processes and professional development.
    • Ensure all content reflects the League’s commitment to quality, integrity, and inclusivity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience
  • 5 years of management experience
  • Post-graduate training or professional certificates related to data science and data visualization highly preferred
  • Deep passion for sports, broader sports rights marketplace and sports-related storytelling
  • Significant professional experience at a large media brand in quantitative and qualitative analysis; can drive to insight and results with complex data sets
  • Strong familiarity with content production & distribution technology and digital asset management preferred
  • Proven track record of developing successful content and audience development strategies across multiple content genres, including sports, news, and podcasting
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills with a track record of presenting complex analysis to executives/senior management clearly and concisely
  • Exceptional Power-Point and presentation development skills
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and inspiring both creative teams and business leaders
  • Self-starter, intellectually curious; proven track record of identifying new opportunities

Preferred Skills:

  • MBA preferred
  • Experience working with NFL-related content or within a sports media organization.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and digital platforms (e.g., AR, VR, social media trends).
  • Strong network within the sports content community

Travel

  • 15 - 30 days per year

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week. This role may occasionally require work during nights, weekends and/or holidays.

Salary / Pay Range

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that the NFL believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job in the location(s) specified. The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.

$135,000$180,000 USD
