Location: This is a fully remote role.

Type: This is a full-time position

About the Team

The Content Accessibility team at College Board has the privilege and responsibility of ensuring that College Board assessments are accessible for individuals with disabilities. Our work is both specialized and broad: we work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to write and review image descriptions, consult with product and technology teams to improve accessibility supports in authoring tools, and collaborate with accessibility and accommodations specialists across the organization to ensure test content meets both policy and the test-taker needs. We not only advocate for universal design, we live it.

About the Opportunity

As our Director, Content Accessibility you are a writer, reviewer, problem solver, and program liaison who doesn’t settle for ensuring the test-taking experience is fair for individuals with disabilities. Rather, you push to improve that experience. You do this in part by learning the ins and outs of a program, specializing in its unique content requirements and pursuing innovations that benefit both the end user and the program. You train stakeholders to instill in them best practices and you advocate for improvements every chance you get, inviting key stakeholders to buy into the team’s vision not just of making our work good, but of making our goodness repeatable.

In this role you will:

Writer and Reviewer (50%)

  • Write accessible test content (e.g., image descriptions), maintaining the highest standards of quality and care, for College Board assessment programs

  • Review and remediate test content to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) prior to test packaging and publishing

  • Review and remediate test-adjacent content (e.g., research studies, scoring guidelines) to meet requirements of WCAG and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prior to publishing

  • Conduct quality-control reviews in support of any test administration

  • Produce error-free deliverables for external vendors, including reader scripts and braille transcription notes

Program Liaison (25%)

  • Partner with the Accessibility Compliance Office to maintain alignment with corporate accessibility policy

  • Coordinate with test-authoring teams to maintain alignment with test-authoring policies

  • Consult with content SMEs, technology teams, and others to ensure content is accessible, fair, and does not violate test constructs

  • Represent the Content Accessibility team in planning and coordination with partner programs

  • Delineate requirements, communicate with, and problem solve for vendors, as needed

Operational Excellence  (25%)

  • Partner with Senior Director to coordinate team schedules and resources

  • Document processes and write and maintain image description guidelines, universal design policies, and other documentation

  • Conduct trainings and  provide general support to content SMEs and teams across College Board  in support of improved accessibility for users of accessible technology and all individuals with disabilities who use College Board products and services

  • Research tools, strategies, and innovations (technological and otherwise) that help improve access to test content, and advocate for their implementation

  • Be a subject-matter expert on universal design and accessible test delivery and design

About You

You have:

  • Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated experience writing or editing (e.g., technical writer, technical editor)

  • Demonstrated experience working in an accessibility-related position (e.g., accessibility specialist, inclusive designer, section 508 compliance analyst)

  • Strong knowledge of web-content accessibility (WCAG, ARIA) and/or universal design

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including facilitating meetings and presenting remotely and in-person to groups of 5 or more

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, and the proven ability to move forward multiple projects in concert, both independently and as a member of the team

  • Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions

  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence others to action

  • Knowledge of and curiosity about emerging trends and best practices in Web standards, WCAG accessibility, and universal design

  • Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • The ability to travel 1-3 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business

  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer

About Our Process

  • Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled

  • While the hiring process may vary, it generally includes: resume and application submission, recruiter phone/video screen, hiring manager interview, performance exercise, a panel interview, and reference checks.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
