About Solace

Healthcare in the U.S. is fundamentally broken. The system is so complex that 88% of U.S. adults do not have the health literacy necessary to navigate it without help. Solace cuts through the red tape of healthcare by pairing patients with expert advocates and giving them the tools to make better decisions—and get better outcomes.

We're a Series C startup, founded in 2022 and backed by Inspired Capital, Craft Ventures, Torch Capital, Menlo Ventures, Signalfire, and IVP. Our U.S. based team is lean, mission-driven, and growing quickly.

Solace isn't a place to coast. We're here to redefine healthcare—and that demands urgency, precision, and heart. If you're looking to stretch yourself, sharpen your edge, and do the best work of your life alongside a team that cares deeply, you're in the right place. We’re intense, and we like it that way.

About the Role

As the Director of Compliance at Solace, you will build and own the systems that ensure we can deliver high-trust, high-impact patient advocacy at scale.

Solace operates at the center of one of the most complex systems in the country, healthcare. We support patients navigating diagnoses, insurance battles, and care coordination across all 50 states, often at their most vulnerable moments. Compliance is not a back-office function here, it is core to how we earn and maintain trust with patients, advocates, and partners.

You will define how Solace operates within healthcare regulations while enabling the speed and ownership that make our advocates effective. You’ll take ambiguous, fragmented requirements across federal programs (including Medicare), state regulations, and privacy laws, and turn them into systems the company can actually run on.

You’re a builder who knows how to hold a high bar without becoming a bottleneck. You understand that the goal isn’t just to be compliant, it’s to build a system that works for patients.

This role will start as an individual contributor and evolve into building and leading a team. You will report directly to the CEO.

What You’ll Do

You will own compliance end-to-end.

  • Build the Compliance Engine: Design and implement Solace’s compliance program across policies, controls, training, monitoring, and reporting built for a fast-moving, multi-state healthcare platform.

  • Translate Regulation into Execution: Turn complex requirements (HIPAA, Medicare, state-level rules, payer dynamics) into clear, actionable processes that operators and advocates can follow.

  • Own Marketplace Integrity: Define how Solace ensures its network of independent advocates operates safely, consistently, and in alignment with regulatory and ethical standards — without losing what makes them effective.

  • Embed Compliance into the Product: Partner with Product and Operations to ensure compliance is built into workflows like advocate matching, patient communication, documentation, and claims support.

  • Protect Patient Trust: Establish standards for privacy, data handling, and communication that reflect the reality of patients sharing highly sensitive information during critical moments.

  • Risk Identification & Control Design: Identify where things can break, across care coordination, insurance support, and patient interactions, and implement pragmatic controls that reduce risk without slowing down execution.

  • Audits & Investigations: Lead audits (internal and external), manage compliance reviews tied to Medicare and payer programs, and oversee investigations with speed and rigor.

  • Documentation That Reflects Reality: Create policies and procedures that match how Solace actually operates, and evolve them as the product and model change.

  • Monitoring & Reporting: Define KPIs and reporting that give leadership real visibility into compliance health, risks, and trends.

  • Vendor & Partner Oversight: Ensure third-party tools and partners meet Solace’s standards for privacy, security, and regulatory alignment.

  • Automation & Scale: Implement systems that reduce manual work, increase signal, and allow compliance to scale with the business.

What You Bring to the Table

  • A bias toward action. You don’t just flag risk, you design and implement solutions.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, especially in environments where regulation and business models are evolving.

  • A builder’s mentality. You’ve built or scaled compliance programs in real-world, operationally complex settings.

  • Strong judgment. You know how to balance patient safety, regulatory integrity, and business velocity.

  • Ability to translate complex healthcare and payer regulations into clear, practical guidance.

  • Excellent communication and influence skills. You can partner across Product, Ops, and external stakeholders while holding a high bar.

  • Experience in healthcare, digital health, marketplaces, or similarly regulated environments strongly preferred.

  • Experience with HIPAA, Medicare (including Advantage plans), and multi-state regulatory environments.

  • Experience working with audits, investigations, and compliance program management.

  • 6–10+ years of experience in Compliance, Risk, Legal, or a related field, ideally in a high-growth environment.

Applicants must be based in the United States.

Up for the Challenge?

We look forward to meeting you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
