Garner’s mission is to transform the healthcare economy, delivering high-quality and affordable care for all.

We are fundamentally reimagining how healthcare works in the U.S. by partnering with employers to redesign healthcare benefits using clear incentives and powerful, data-driven insights. Our approach guides employees to higher-quality, lower-cost care, creating a system that works better for everyone. Patients achieve better health outcomes, employers spend healthcare dollars more effectively, and physicians are rewarded for delivering exceptional care rather than performing more procedures.

Garner is one of the fastest-growing healthcare technology companies in the country. Our products are trusted by the most sophisticated employers and providers in the industry, and we are building a team of talented, mission-driven individuals who are motivated to make a meaningful impact on healthcare at scale.

About the role:

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Communications to join our Marketing team. This role will report to the Chief Marketing Officer. As Garner emerges from a period of rapid growth and limited public presence, the Director of Communications will play the driving role in developing and executing a communications strategy that introduces and defines our brand to both the general public and key stakeholders.

Where you will work:

This role will be based in our New York City office (in the Financial District). You must be willing to work in the office 3 days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What you will do:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that drives improved brand awareness, accelerates go-to-market efforts, and supports talent acquisition efforts
  • Lead all corporate reputation efforts, including media relations, crisis management, and the positioning of executive leadership as industry thought leaders
  • Build compelling narratives that allow Garner to target key audiences, including employers, benefits brokers and consultants, health plans, healthcare providers, and talent
  • Define and track key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of communication channels and continuously optimize Garner’s brand presence and share of voice
  • Partner with our People/HR function to oversee internal communications programs that keep Garner’s employees informed and engaged as the company grows rapidly
  • Partner with Finance and Legal teams to support investor relations
What you will bring to the team:
  • 8+ years of experience in corporate communications or PR, with at least 4+ years in a senior leadership role within the healthcare or tech sectors
  • A proven track record of managing complex communications during periods of high growth or rapid change, such as a startup
  • A robust portfolio of established relationships with Tier-1 business, technology, and/or healthcare trade journalists and influencers
  • An exceptional ability to translate complicated and nuanced data and technical product information into accessible stories that resonate with external audiences
  • An understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, including industry trends/dynamics and knowledge of the major players, is preferred
  • A desire to be a part of a high-performing, mission-driven team that operates with intense urgency, a strong sense of individual accountability, and a commitment to authentic feedback

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing company in a transformative role, helping shape the future of healthcare.

Compensation Transparency:

The base salary range for this position is $230,000 - $260,000. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible to participate in our equity incentive and competitive benefits plans, including but not limited to: flexible PTO, Medical/Dental/Vision plan options, 401(k) with company match, flexible spending accounts, Teladoc Health and more.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
