At Personalis, we are transforming the active management of cancer through breakthrough personalized testing. We aim to drive a new paradigm for cancer management, guiding care from biopsy through the life of the patient. Our highly sensitive assays combine tumor-and-normal profiling with proprietary algorithms to deliver advanced insights even as cancer evolves over time. Our products are designed to detect minimal residual disease (MRD) and recurrence at the earliest timepoints, enable selection of targeted therapies based on ultra-comprehensive genomic profiling, and enhance biomarker strategy for drug development. Personalis is based in Fremont, California.

Summary:

Personalis is building its position as a leader in precision oncology and is seeking a Director of Commercial Marketing to assume a key commercial leadership role.  This team leader will own the strategic direction and tactical implementation of commercial marketing activities across the full portfolio, including tumor profiling and MRD. The Director will be responsible for a multitude of global marketing activities aimed at building awareness and driving demand across several customer segments. This position will own a broad spectrum of upstream and downstream marketing activities including brand planning, commercial market research, branding, lead generation, website management, creative development, asset development, campaign activation, and multi-channel marketing. This position will also co-own strategic marketing deliverables including go-to-market strategy, customer segmentation, product positioning, and messaging in collaboration with key partners. This leader will oversee a team of marketers to support commercial growth objectives, with the potential to grow and scale a best-in-class team as the business continues to expand. 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish a high-impact and comprehensive brand/ marketing plan that competitively positions the company for commercial success 
  • Build global awareness and drive demand for full portfolio of Personalis products across all customer segments, for all current and pipeline products 
  • Lead all product and portfolio brand planning, ATU/ brand surveys, commercial AdBoards, branding, promotional marketing campaigns, marketing asset and content development, lead generation, media dissemination, multi-channel advertising and promotion, and marketing analytics
  • Co-own strategic marketing such as go-to-market strategy, customer segmentation, product positioning, and messaging in close partnership with Product Management
  • Hire, develop, manage, and motivate a high-performing team of marketers by building effective processes and a collaborative culture
  • Lead corporate level marketing activities such as website and social media management
  • Lead virtual and in-person marketing events including speaker panels and programs, and webinars
  • Cultivate a strong partnership with Clinical Sales, Product Management, Medical Affairs, and R&D to contribute to corporate goals and objectives
  • Develop a strong understanding of customers across HCP segments, including providers, and patients, to create effective positioning and key messages to drive product adoption
  • Build and maintain business processes and tools over time, including MLR review, document management, and marketing-related CRM platform management
  • Actively manage the marketing agency relationship and deliverables, ensuring a cost effective approach that is aligned with commercial goals and objectives  

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, life sciences, or related field
  • MBA or advanced degree in Life Sciences (or 2 years of experience in lieu of Master’s degree)
  • 8+ years of proven experience in marketing roles of increasing scope and responsibility in the genomics, molecular biology, or molecular diagnostics arenas
  • Direct NGS and/ or molecular diagnostics experience highly preferred, ideally in MRD or therapy selection/ CGP
  • Ideal experience marketing clinical products to clinicians/ providers
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience managing and growing a team
  • Strong creative intuition on design and messaging that resonates with customers, ability to execute plans with attention to detail, and an ability to learn from previous campaigns to improve on performance
  • Ability to develop and present strategy and brand/ marketing plans. Communicates in a compelling manner that captures and holds others’ attention
  • Demonstrated track record of partnering well with internal peers and external vendors
  • Proven ability to thrive and be successful in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20% 

The hiring range for this position is $220,000 to $250,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
