BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Business Development to support our Maritime Solutions business in Norfolk, VA. The Director will lead the government business development activities for the US East Coast Maritime Solutions business area consisting of two major shipyards in Norfolk, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida. The Director will develop the long-range business plan and strategy for locating and pursuing maritime industrial base (MIB) contract opportunities for the business area.
In addition to business development, the role and responsibilities will include relationship management and collaboration with other teams in the organization, including marketing and operations. Work closely with account executives, proposal teams, capture leaders, government relations, and business executives to share intelligence, prioritize outreach, and address any challenges. To be effective, utilize exceptional communication skills with different teams within the organization, superior active listening and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage a large portfolio of multiple business strategic goals and objectives simultaneously.

Full-Time Salary Range: $169630 - $288370

- This role is expected to be onsite in Norfolk, VA.
- There will be travel requirements of 25%.
Responsibilities:
- Market research: Regularly analyze the market to discover new business opportunities, strategies, and partnerships. Create a competitive advantage by studying MIB competition to assess external market BD/sales strategies.
- Strategic planning: Create and execute development strategies to assist Maritime Solutions achieve its annual sales goals. Identify target markets and potential clients and develop strategies to reach out to those groups.
- Client acquisition: Build and maintain relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders. In addition, negotiate contracts to secure business deals.
- Sales: Become the driving force behind efforts to hit a business area's sales targets. Partner and contribute to the business capture team to develop proposals, presentations, and sales pitches.
- Networking: Travel and network through social relationship management - attend industry events and conferences to promote BAE Systems' Maritime Solutions, its offerings, and its services.
- Performance tracking: Evaluate the effectiveness of business development strategies and initiatives. Report on revenue growth, market penetration, and client acquisition.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- US Citizenship required
- Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
- Experience in Business Development, Acquisition, Strategy, or related field
- Experience in Process development, implementation, improvement
- Experience in Cross-functional leadership to deliver commitments and achieve project goals
- Experience in Navy/Maritime
- Understanding of Naval maintenance programs, including ship repair and modernization
- Understanding of regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards related to proposal development
- Ability to manage a large portfolio of multiple business strategic goals and objectives simultaneously
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
