Director - Global Head of Data & Analytics, BlackRock Investment Stewardship
The BlackRock Investment Stewardship team (BIS) operates across three regions – the Americas (New York and San Francisco); Europe, Middle East and Africa (London); and Asia-Pacific (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney) – and undertakes engagement with and proxy voting at portfolio companies on behalf of index clients globally.

Team Overview
The BIS team’s activities are guided by BIS’ role as a fiduciary on behalf of our clients. In this role, the Director will lead the Data & Analytics team within BIS supporting the delivery of processes and tools on behalf of the global BIS team. The role is based in New York, and reports to the Global Head of Platform, BIS.
Role
The Director will lead the BIS Data & Analytics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering global, data-centric stewardship capabilities including research and reporting, which will complement the qualitative company-specific research conducted by BIS engagement and voting analysts. In this role, the Director has responsibility, in close partnership with BIS’ engagement and voting analysts, to drive the buildout and maintenance of various tools and processes in support of BIS’ engagement, voting and client reporting operations.
The successful candidate should possess a passion for creative and critical thinking about the stewardship ecosystem, investment research, financial and corporate governance data analysis, as well as working closely with the broader technology business at BlackRock.
Key Responsibilities:
Enable the stewardship platform, spanning research, voting and client reporting
Leverage expertise in automation to improve analyst efficiency and controls
Support voting and engagement client reporting by designing and maintaining a code stack utilizing BlackRock’s applications and tools, including managing any interface with Aladdin and other external applications and vendors
Partner with other analytical and technology functions across BlackRock, including the Aladdin Product Group, and Risk and Quantitative Analysis to build, maintain and improve technological solutions
Ensure integrity of the BIS data environment and oversee the quality control of BIS proprietary datasets. Golden source of truth for data-rich publications
Direct team of data analysts in appropriate design and use of data tools and reports
The ideal candidate will have:
10+ years of experience in data engineering, including experience in evaluating and deploying modern AI techniques
Undergraduate degree is required, and an advanced degree (Masters) is a plus within a technical field (Computer Science, Statistics)
Demonstrated experience with building research and analytics platforms
Expert-level proficiency required. The successful candidates should be a master of relational modeling and complex query optimization
Experience in UI/UX, plus familiarity with the modern AI landscape and building RAG-based systems
Design robust schemas and ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest corporate filings, global news, and financial data, maximizing our ability to deliver rapid insights
Ability to integrate cutting-edge AI into BIS workflow. Should be comfortable with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) search, Agentic Workflows, and AI embeddings to help query massive datasets intuitively
Demonstrated experience using Python or C# to automate workflows and solve engineering hurdles
Significant experience with Snowflake (specifically Lake House implementations)
Effective communication skills. The successful candidate must have the confidence and ability to interact at the most senior levels and collaborate with both technical and non-technical personnel
Experience managing numerous data and analytical professionals in a complex, global environment
Experience in working effectively in a large multi-national organization, with partner teams based across the globe
