As the Director of Artist & Label Strategy, you will lead strategic relationships with a portfolio of developing and established artists and labels, ensuring clients receive best-in-class marketing strategy and unlock the full potential of Stem’s products and services. You will act as both strategic advisor and marketing architect by conceiving and executing tailored campaign strategies that drive visibility, revenue, and fan engagement. This role is ideal for someone who brings a deep understanding of the recorded music ecosystem, a refined sense of artist development, and a track record of delivering results across streaming, digital marketing, and audience growth. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with DSP strategy, business development, content operations, and product teams, while also cultivating third-party relationships to extend the reach and value of your clients’ campaigns. Your success will be defined by your ability to build trust with artist teams, deliver meaningful impact on their projects, and retain long-term partnerships that align with Stem’s mission of supporting artist independence.. This is a full-time role, and we are prioritizing candidates based in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, Atlanta, and London. This position works under the general supervision of the General Manager of Stem.

 

What you’ll do:

● Own and manage a portfolio of priority artist and label clients, serving as their primary strategic contact throughout release cycles and ongoing planning.

● Conceive and execute tailored artist marketing plans in collaboration with artist teams and internal stakeholders—driving audience growth, DSP performance, and fan engagement.

● Advise clients on marketing budget allocation, ensuring investments align with creative vision, commercial potential, and campaign milestones.

● Collaborate with Stem’s Editorial & Commercial Strategy team on DSP pitching strategy, helping shape and communicate compelling narratives that drive platform visibility.

● Manage Spotify Commercial Marketing & Advertising tools on behalf of your clients, while staying up to date on platform-specific promotional opportunities and advertising innovations.

● Identify, secure, and manage third-party partners and vendors (e.g. creative agencies, publicists, digital ad teams, radio promoters, sync reps, influencer agencies) to expand marketing reach and artist development efforts.

● Cultivate strategic relationships with external artist development resources, both domestic and international, to unlock growth opportunities for your clients.

● Work with artists and managers to define creative and commercial goals, shaping campaign timelines, deliverables, and success metrics.

● Analyze data and streaming insights to inform campaign strategy and adapt tactics across phases of the release.

● Serve as a platform expert—helping clients navigate Stem’s tools and services with fluency and confidence.

● Proactively identify and address client needs, potential risks, or churn indicators; work cross-functionally to retain and grow relationships.

● Represent Stem externally at events, showcases, and meetings with credibility, professionalism, and a passion for supporting independent artists.

 

What you’ll need:

● 6+ years of music industry experience, including 3+ years in an artist-facing strategic or marketing role at a record label, distributor, or artist services company.

● Proven experience developing and executing music marketing campaigns across streaming, social media, advertising, influencer activations, and content creation.

● Deep understanding of the digital music landscape, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, and emerging platforms.

● Experience with DSP promotional tools, particularly Spotify’s Commercial Marketing & Advertising offerings.

● Existing network of contacts across artist teams, DSPs, agencies, and gatekeepers—especially in pop, dance, and indie genres.

● Track record of managing artist marketing budgets and delivering campaigns that drive measurable growth.

● Strong understanding of the recorded music business, plus general knowledge of music publishing, live, and sync.

● Confidence in leading meetings and campaign strategy discussions with high-level stakeholders, including artists and executives.

● Exceptional communication, project management, and interpersonal skills; highly organized and comfortable juggling multiple priorities.

● Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and marketing/pitching tools; familiarity with CRM systems and analytics platforms.

● A passion for artist independence, entrepreneurial thinking, and innovative tech solutions in music.

 

It’s a bonus if you have:

● General understanding of recorded music deal structures and contract terms

● Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or video editing tools (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Canva, etc.)

● Certification or training in digital advertising platforms like Meta, YouTube, or Google Ads
