We're looking for exceptional talent to help us achieve our mission of making financial advice better, more affordable, and accessible to all. If you're passionate about challenging the status quo and want to do the most important work of your life, we'd love to meet you!

But first, our values

The opportunity

We’re looking for a seasoned, entrepreneurial Head of Advisor Transitions to lead our efforts in empowering financial advisors to achieve independence. This is a high-impact, client-facing leadership role that blends sales, business consulting, and strategic partnership.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the RIA formation journey – particularly with the operational, legal, and compliance aspects of setting up and running RIAs. With a passion for guiding advisors through the transition to independence, you’ll act as both a strategic advisor and trusted partner – sourcing prospects, consulting on their breakaway path, and ensuring a successful transition process from start to finish.

Your impact

  • Lead Breakaway Growth:
    • Drive the acquisition of institutional advisors exploring independence, positioning Altruist as the premier custodial partner for their new RIA firm.
    • Develop a go-to-market strategy specifically targeting breakaway opportunities, aligned with company-wide growth goals
  • Prospect & Source:
    • Identify, engage, and build relationships with financial advisors at banks, wirehouses, and broker-dealers who are ideal candidates for independence
    • Leverage personal network, strategic outreach, and referral channels to build a robust pipeline of high-potential breakaway prospects
  • Advisor Education and Consultation:
    • Engage with advisors exploring independence to understand their goals, concerns, and challenges.
    • Educate advisors on the benefits of transitioning to an RIA model and leveraging Altruist’s platform, including a focus early on whether the advisor is ready and wants to be a business owner. Can include guiding the advisor to another RIA that works with Altruist.
  • Transition Strategy Development:
    • Develop tailored transition strategies for advisors leaving wirehouses or large firms.
    • Outline clear, actionable roadmaps for setting up independent RIAs, including compliance, technology, and operational considerations.
  • Partnerships and Business Development:
    • Develop key strategic partnerships to unlock incremental advisor opportunities
    • Structure business model agreements with key partners to drive growth
  • RIA Setup and Compliance Support:
    • Provide hands-on assistance in the registration and setup of new RIAs, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
    • Partner with legal and compliance experts to address complex scenarios.
  • Operational and Technology Implementation:
    • Guide advisors in adopting Altruist’s platform, emphasizing its capabilities to streamline operations and enhance client service.
    • Recommend complementary tools and integrations to build a fully functional and efficient RIA.
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Serve as a trusted and confidential advisor throughout the transition process, maintaining close communication to address questions and concerns.
    • Foster long-term relationships with advisors post-launch, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and success.
  • Industry Leadership and Advocacy:
    • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and competitive offerings to provide forward-thinking advice.
    • Represent Altruist at industry events, webinars, and other forums to promote the company’s mission and attract top-tier advisors.

What you bring

  • Experience - 10+ years of experience in the financial advisory industry, with a focus on transitions, RIA operations, and compliance.
    • Deep understanding of the RIA business model, wirehouse dynamics, and the regulatory landscape.
    • Proven track record of successfully guiding advisors through complex transitions and RIA launches.
    • Expertise in financial technology platforms; familiarity with Altruist is a strong plus.
  • Education - Ideally looking for a B.A. / B.S. degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Business, Economics, etc.
  • Technical aptitude - You’re technologically savvy and can easily get up to speed on modern tech stacks or financial technology platforms.
  • Ownership - The pride you put into every aspect of your work is unparalleled and undeniable
  • Superb communication - Intentional dialogue is a superpower. You listen as well as you share your perspective with others.
  • Resilience - We’re inspired by your unwavering determination to achieve success, no matter the adversity you face along the way.
  • Assurance - Your confidence is brilliant, yet ego-less. You possess a strong knowledge base, the ability to discover the unknown, and are open to differing perspectives.
  • Creative problem solving - Identifying the problem is simply not enough. You’re instinctually creative with your approach in finding solutions to roadblocks.
  • Bonus points if you bring
    • Familiarity with Altruist is a strong plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
