About Finite State

At Finite State, we're on a mission to secure the connected world. Our platform empowers product security teams to detect vulnerabilities, manage software supply chain risks, and ensure compliance across complex device ecosystems. From IoT to critical infrastructure, we provide unparalleled visibility into firmware and software components, helping organizations protect their products and customers.

We operate with a “learn-it-all” mindset: constantly evolving, asking better questions, and improving how we work and what we deliver. This mindset underpins everything we do and is reflected in our values:

  • Transparency – We share openly: what’s working, what’s not, and where we’re headed.
  • Results – We focus on what moves the needle and deliver outcomes that drive impact.
  • Accountability – We own it, hold the bar high, and act with urgency.
  • Customer Dedication – We stay close to our customers, anticipate their needs, and act as true partners.
  • Bold Innovation – We push boundaries, explore new ideas, and take initiative to solve complex problems.
The Role

We’re hiring a Director of Accounting to lead and scale our accounting function as we grow. You’ll be responsible for owning the monthly close, building GAAP-compliant processes, supporting AI-driven business model complexity (e.g., usage-based pricing, hybrid SaaS + services), and preparing us for audit and long-term scalability. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, tech-driven environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead all accounting operations, including GL, AR/AP, payroll, revenue recognition, and equity accounting
  • Own and streamline the month-end close process for accuracy, speed, and audit readiness
  • Develop and maintain scalable accounting policies and controls aligned with US GAAP and SaaS norms
  • Drive ASC 606 compliance, including AI-influenced pricing models and bundled offerings
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and external vendors
  • Implement and optimize finance tech stack (e.g., NetSuite, Bill, TriNet, Carta), with an eye toward automating the mundane and AI enablement
  • Support international expansion, intercompany transactions, and multi-currency consolidation
  • Partner with FP&A and Data teams to align revenue, margin, and spend tracking to operational metrics
  • Hire and mentor a lean team, scaling as the company grows
What You Bring
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including SaaS; cybersecurity or AI experience a plus
  • CPA required; public accounting background strongly preferred
  • Deep understanding of ASC 606, equity comp, cost capitalization, and SaaS-specific accounting nuances
  • Experience with AI-augmented pricing models (e.g., consumption-based billing, AI services integration)
  • Systems thinker with ERP ownership (NetSuite ideal) and a bias toward automation
  • Excellent cross-functional communication; ability to translate accounting implications to non-finance stakeholders
  • Comfortable building from zero and scaling fast in a high-growth startup environment
Nice to Have
  • Experience with hybrid revenue models (software + professional services + AI APIs)
  • Exposure to IPO-readiness, public company controls, or PCAOB audits
  • Familiarity with SOC 2, FedRAMP, or other compliance frameworks common in cybersecurity
Why Finite State?
  • Be a part of building the leading platform for connected device cybersecurity.
  • Join a fast-moving team that values transparency, innovation, and impact.
  • Work fully remotely with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.
  • Comprehensive Benefits
  • Investment: We offer learning stipends to support your professional development
  •  Equity: We offer equity so you can share in our growth and success
  • Help solve some of the most pressing cybersecurity challenges facing connected device  manufacturers and the millions of people who depend on them
 About Us

Built on two decades of cybersecurity experience, our team of experts understands the hidden risks in today’s enterprise networks, where IoT vulnerabilities are quickly becoming the entry point of choice for cyber attacks.

We have a sense of duty to protect the critical infrastructure we rely on including medical devices, power grids and telecommunication networks. We were founded in 2017 in Columbus, Ohio.

Finite State has a transparent, collaborative and supportive culture - we are looking for people who have a growth mindset, are curious and innovative, and drive results. Our team is smart, but humble, hard working with lots of fun sprinkled in. Above all, our team is driven by our noble mission and we hold ourselves accountable to delivering to our customers every single day.

The Finite State platform brings visibility and control to the supply chains that create connected devices and embedded systems—all in a simple to use platform and at the scale manufacturers need to keep device production on time and on budget. After unpacking and analyzing every file, configuration, and setting in a firmware build, the platform generates a complete bill of materials for software components, identifies known and 0-day vulnerabilities, shows a contextual risk score, and provides actionable insights that product teams can use to secure their software

We are proud to be an Equal Employer Opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics. Finite State is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with physical and mental disabilities.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
