Join us in pioneering the next generation of nuclear reactors! We are searching for a DevOps Engineer to join our team. You'll leverage your software and infrastructure skills to support the design and deployment of advanced fission power technology. Come be a part of powering the future with clean, reliable, affordable energy.

Position Description

This role will be critical in enhancing our development processes, ensuring high-quality software delivery, and maintaining compliance standards. We support a variety of internal “customers” and use software/automation to help ensure that other teams can do their job and that the trains run on time. Our team is young and building out our processes and capabilities. You will have the opportunity to help shape the trajectory of engineering infrastructure at Oklo.

Specific responsibilities may include

  • Implementing compliance measures and tooling across development workflows.
  • Enabling CAD infrastructure and integrating CAD tooling into the CI/CD design and simulation processes.
  • Monitoring and optimizing system performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Documenting processes, configurations, and workflows for knowledge sharing.
  • Contributing to design discussions and RFCs, and producing clear technical documentation.
  • Collaborating effectively across teams, balancing competing priorities, and driving projects forward independently in the face of ambiguity.

Minimum Qualifications

We’d like to see a track record of the following, based on your past roles and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar (or equivalent industry experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in a DevOps role, SRE role, or Software Engineering role with a significant infrastructure component.
  • Fluent in Python.
  • Experience integrating with Siemens NX CAD and NXOpen.
  • Software engineering fundamentals and best practices: testing, version control, system design, etc.
  • Experience working with cloud concepts, in particular AWS services (VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudFormation, Lambda).
  • Experience designing, setting up, and managing CI/CD infrastructure (eg. GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong IT/Ops fundamentals with proficiency in Linux/Unix administration, virtualization technologies, and core networking concepts.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience working as a member of a distributed, remote team.
  • Experience with Gitlab, including Gitlab CI/CD.
  • Experience working with containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Experience working with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Ansible/Puppet/Chef, Terraform).
  • Experience building systems that integrate with third-party tools and APIs.
  • Experience with modern security standards and tools.
  • Background in nuclear energy or renewable energy systems, with experience in regulatory compliance or nuclear engineering.

Who you are:

A startup person: You aren't driven by titles or hierarchy, and prefer efficiency to excess process. You don't need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team. If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us! There is plenty of important work and plenty of good opportunities with organizations like that.

Motivated: You are self-motivated. You bring an enthusiasm to the team, and imbue a sense of passion that goes beyond clocking in and clocking out. This isn’t about a fake or arbitrary “pieces of flair” mentality or lack of work-life balance! It is about being a part of the vision and feeling a part of reaching team goals.

A team-player: Oklo genuinely is a team. We aren’t about taking credit for ourselves, and we aren’t about pushing blame to others. We do incredible things because we work as a team.

An excellent communicator: We need a person who is not only technically competent but also a clear and upbeat communicator.

Creative: Being creative means that when things fall outside clear scopes or processes or problems arise without clear solutions, you are able to identify it as well as invent ways to solve a problem or fill a need without micromanagement. The successful person in this job will not only be creative, but also enjoy being creative and solving open-ended problems which may change day-by-day.

Detail-oriented: This focus is a big part of excellence, consistency, and quality. Excellent grammar and spelling matter for both good communication as well as the image of the company that we put forward.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
