Sketchy is an online visual learning platform that helps students effortlessly learn and recall information through a blend of art, story, spaced repetition and memory palace techniques. Sketchy was born when four medical students began creating sketched stories to distinguish and memorize similarly named viruses, as they realized that the same learning methodologies can be used across a variety of subjects.

Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced UI/UX Designer to continually improve the Sketchy product experience and overall user satisfaction with our learning programs for students and institutions around the world.  You need to be able to sell your ideas and user-centered designs by deeply understanding our business objectives while always delivering on the voice of the customer.   You can quickly and iteratively create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and low and high-fidelity mockups and an excellent communicator of ideas across the organization.

This role will report into the Chief Product Officer and will be Remote/based in our Los Angeles headquarters.

Responsibilities:

• Conducting user research. Deeply understand our users and their behavior, goals, motivations, and needs and collect/analyze data through interviews, competitive analysis, online surveys, and focus groups to make decisions.
• Information Architecture. Organize content within Sketchy to effectively guide the user to accomplish tasks or educate them about the product.
• Creating user personas. Identify discrete and high-value user groups and create representative personas and illustrative tools such as “a day-in-the-life” to show how Sketchy fits into the user’s everyday routine.

• User flows and wireframes. Ability to quickly create wireframes that represent a user’s journey as they interact with Sketchy content and features, including incorporating the most effective UI elements to optimize that user journey.
• Prototyping. Where applicable, generate an interactive prototype, which is either clickable or tangible to enable a user to test the main interactions of the product.
• Interface Testing. Gather feedback through structured and unstructured testing from users on interface elements including CTAs, layouts, target links, landing pages, etc.
• Presenting to key stakeholders. Present designs and research findings with company stakeholders and product teams to ensure design insights are implemented including what the product will be like, how it will improve the user’s life, and its impact on the user’s emotional journey.

Requirements:

• Ability to understand business metrics and translate company goals into digital experiences 
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate ideas to developers
• Knowledge/proficiency with tools like Adobe, Figma, Zeplin, OmniGraffle, Illustrator & Sketch
• Problem-solving skills to determine solutions to user interface challenges
• Multi-tasking and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
• Analytical mind with business acumen
• Ability to work both independently and in a team
• Attention to detail and mastery of information design
• Energized by juggling multiple projects on tight deadlines without compromising quality with an entrepreneurial mind and at ease with ambiguity
• Experience (or strong interest) in working in a fast-paced startup environment
• Passionate about learning and making a positive impact on the world
• 3+ years of UI/UX Design experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a similar field of study
• Bachelor’s degree in design or computer-related programs preferred.
• Trained in HTML/CSS and JavaScript.
