Manager of Structures Design
Team and Role Overview
Relativity seeks a highly talented Manager of Structures Design to join a rapidly growing space startup. This position will provide outstanding technical leadership in the development of the Terran 1 structures, as well as helping build a world-class structures team. A high degree of autonomy and leadership in a fast pace environment is required.
The Mission/Outcomes and Objectives
Our mission is to change the people’s conception of the way rockets are built and flown. As the manager of structures design, you will have a heavy hand in the overall structural design architecture of Relativity’s Terran 1 launch vehicle. In addition, you will also be responsible for the design, analysis, build and test of the launch vehicle primary and secondary structures for our first flight article and more. You will deliver a reliable vehicle structure while working in concert with the loads and dynamics, structures test, additive, manufacturing and integration teams. The success of this team is also highly dependent on your willingness to recruit, build, and mentor a world class structures team.
Candidate Profile
In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who thrives in ambiguity and is able to lead their own projects into completion. Ideally, you are someone who has come from a fast paced, aerospace environment, having completed difficult projects while collaborating effectively with other key groups.
Minimum Required Skills and Competencies
- Undergraduate or graduate degree (BS/MS/PhD) in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of relevant design and analysis experience
- 2+ years of technical multidisciplinary leadership experience
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and success to deliver products that meet requirements on time and on budget
- Strong problem solver with great organization skills
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Proven track record of working with minimal guidance
- Experience with Creo, Windchill, Ansys and Femap
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a United States Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.
