Director of Buying and Design 

We are seeking a Director of Buying and Design to oversee the development and execution of our product assortment. This individual will be responsible for driving the product strategy forward in current categories and across new business opportunities. To be effective in this role, the right candidate will have great taste and truly understand the Reformation brand.

The Director of Buying and Design will excel at both developing comprehensive and financially sound business strategies and executing against this direction. What You’ll Do:

Merchandise Planning


  • Oversee the buying and development product calendar across all categories – short lead, long lead, and new product opportunities 
  • Identify key trends to ensure the Reformation product assortment remains exciting and current at all times
  • Oversee color and print development to ensure fabric offerings are on trend and relevant
  • Identify and lead all new product expansion efforts (e.g., collaborations, internal development, third party
  • Deliver weekly trend reports that offer product ideas and facilitate decision-making
  • Work with merchandising/planning team to understand business performance and build data driven product strategies
  • Maintain an understanding of the competitive landscape; understand threats and opportunities across the industry
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing and ecommerce team to ensure comprehensive product launches
  • Oversee team of buyers to ensure team is building compelling product offering with the calendar in mind
  • Oversee buying department to ensure accuracy and thoughtful product recommendations
  • Work with department merchants to develop clear and actionable recommendations on a style level based on weekly performance
  • Synthesize department level reporting and communicate clear reporting insights to leadership team
  • Work with direct reports to support career development and ensure satisfaction


Product Knowledge


  • Develop deep knowledge of the Reformation customer and products; make recommendations for new styles based on previous and current selling performance
  • Work with retail team to integrate customer feedback into future assortment decisions
  • Communicate product strategies cross-functionally (e.g., marketing, production, retail)
  • Work with marketing team to support all key launches


Leadership


  • Lead Merchandising Strategy and Planning team
  • Work cross-functionally with multiple groups such as marketing, production, and ecommerce; collaborate and influence other teams effectively
  • Develop repeatable processes and systems for scale
