Outer is a venture-backed startup based in Santa Monica, California on a mission to get people outside and inspire healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives by creating innovative outdoor furniture.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a talented Art Director to join the Outer creative team. This will be one of the Creative Department’s first hires and will help shape and build the future of this team. We are looking for a talented creative who is motivated and excited to build a brand and can take ideas from conception to execution.

You will create memorable campaigns across multiple channels including print, out-of-home, TV, and digital. Projects include campaign concept ideation, overseeing external creative partners, bringing the brand to life, creation of shot lists and talent briefs, designing and executing marketing initiatives, and owning the brand creative. 

This role reports to the VP of Marketing and supports the interim Head of Creative, and will partner closely with our marketing, engineering product design, and brand teams.

A portfolio is required to be considered for this role.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Lead and shape the evolution of the Outer brand 
• Develop, evolve and oversee the Outer graphic design standards
• Lead art direction from concepts, pre-production, post-production, on-set direction
• Establish best practices for the growing creative team including file management, asset releases, approval processes
• Conceptualize and develop compelling creative that builds brand awareness and drives sales
• Partner with cross-functional teams to develop strategic creative that adhere to the business goals
• Support e-commerce, email, social, performance, and brand teams with content development & design
• Champion exceptional design for the brand

WHAT YOU’LL BRING ON DAY 1

• 7+ years and/ or relevant experience in-house or agency
• Hands-on approach to creative, from ideation through to execution
• Impeccable graphic design skills and typography enthusiast
• Forward-thinking and proactive Ability to multitask and project manage workload
• Experience with strategic creative for multi-channel media executions
• Expert Adobe Creative Suite, Figma a plusPhotoshoot experience a plus

ABOUT OUTER

Outer started by creating the perfect outdoor sofa: beautiful, durable, comfortable, and innovative. We also invented a new model for retail because we believe that the furniture buying experience can be much better than stale, traditional showrooms with four walls, fluorescent lighting, and pushy salespeople. Our Neighborhood Showroom platform turns our customers' backyards into our physical showrooms where our customers can see, touch, and feel our products in a real backyard alongside a real customer (think: Airbnb meets retail).
