Seeking a Design Manager for the Emerging Creative team at Netflix to drive UX innovation and collaborate on dynamic media design projects.
The summary above was generated by AI

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

About the Role

The Netflix Experience Design team is seeking a proven Design Leader to join our multidisciplinary Emerging Creative team, which includes motion, video, visual design, and audio specialists. As part Product Design Manager and part Creative Director, you will drive UX innovation that balances creativity with feasibility, transforming big ideas into impactful business results.

About the Team

Emerging Creative is a team of designers specializing in dynamic media. We collaborate closely with product design, cross-functional business units, and engineering partners to envision, create, and inspire new product and omnichannel experiences. Our goal is to ensure quality and cohesion in Netflix members' experiences worldwide.

Despite being well established we operate with a startup mentality. Autonomy and trust are vital; we depend on each other to be agile, highly aligned, and responsible for delivering high-quality work that meets the needs of our members and ever-changing business. Our culture values creativity, accountability, experimentation, and a unique sense of humor.

About You

You have experience recruiting and building effective creative teams and possess deep knowledge of UX design, brand expression, and product marketing. You set high standards for quality, communication, and collaboration. Most importantly, you lead by inspiring your team (vs just managing or directing them) to collaborate, create, and deliver exceptional product experiences together.

You excel at building and maintaining partnerships, working comfortably across various initiatives and with diverse partners. You proactively build context to deepen your understanding of stakeholder needs and your broader domain. You are skilled at negotiating conflicting priorities and spotting connections where others may not see them, often well ahead of time.

You are proactive, results-oriented, and thrive in ambiguity. You simplify complex problems and prioritize adaptability, asking the right questions to arrive at better solutions with broader business priorities in mind. As a leader, you prepare your team for the unexpected, seeing opportunity and unlocking potential exposed by our dynamic business landscape.

You measure success in terms of both human and business impact. You foster excellence through collaboration, encouraging an inclusive environment that welcomes diverse viewpoints, working styles, and innovative ideas. You model open communication, seeking and providing constructive feedback, and approaching conflicts with curiosity and humility.

You empower your team by helping to define and clarify business priorities, highlighting the significance of their contributions, and converting creative skills and strategies into measurable business impact.

The Must-Haves
  • 10+ years leading and growing multidisciplinary design teams (motion, audio, visual) and delivering globally impactful creative work.

  • Proven ability to shape world-class, omnichannel experiences across digital product, marketing, and brand in partnership with product and engineering.

  • Experience with post-production, editorial, or narrative development workflows.

  • Strong track record aligning diverse stakeholders in fast-moving environments.

  • Deep expertise in design thinking, user-centered design, and high-quality craft.

  • Experience driving effective change management and organizational clarity.

  • Clear, confident communicator who can articulate creative strategy and build support at all levels.

  • Known for fostering trust, accountability, and strong cross-functional partnerships.

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring senior designers and contributing to a healthy design culture.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-organizational initiatives from concept to adoption.

  • Growth mindset—with a willingness to experiment, learn, and continuously improve.

  • Passion for entertainment, storytelling, and elevating creative experiences.

  • Ability to align team priorities with broader business vision.

Even Better
  • Recognized for exceptional craft—from big-picture thinking to precise execution.

  • Experience managing hybrid or distributed teams.

  • Designing for global and regional audiences.

  • Collaboration with design systems and design technology partners.

  • Proven history shipping products and leading complex initiatives to successful outcomes.

  • Curiosity about AI-powered experiences, machine learning, and personalization systems.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
