Design Lead - Consumer Platform

About Us

C the Signs is building one of the most consequential consumer health products of our time: an AI-powered platform that helps people understand their cancer risk and take meaningful action, ensuring timely treatment and improved outcomes. We believe the future of cancer care is shaped not just by medicine, but by the products people actually use. As we launch our direct-to-consumer experience, we’re looking for a Design Lead to help us build it.

This Role

We’re looking for a Design Lead to take our product from zero to one, and beyond.

This role sits at the intersection of consumer product design, AI, and health. The Design Lead will translate complex, high-stakes information into experiences that feel human, clear, and actionable. It requires exceptional design craft and deep empathy for users who may be navigating uncertainty or receiving difficult health information.

You’ll lead design strategy and execution across our direct-to-consumer platform, ensuring every interaction is intuitive, supportive, and grounded in trust. This is a hands-on, high-impact role, and a rare opportunity to shape a category-defining health product at its earliest stages. You’ll be owning everything from core interaction patterns and emotional tone to developing a scalable design system.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the design vision for our consumer-facing platform across mobile and web
  • Partner closely with C-suite, Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to deliver cohesive experiences that align with our business strategy
  • Set the bar for design craft while balancing speed and quality in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Translate complex risk assessment outputs and diagnostic pathways into clear, accessible user experiences
  • Design flows that reduce friction and build trust as users share sensitive information, learn their cancer risk, and navigate next steps in a moment of high anxiety and uncertainty
  • Conduct lightweight user research and testing to continuously validate and improve the experience
  • Establish and evolve design systems, principles, and best practices
  • Lay the groundwork for building and mentoring a design team over time

Requirements
  • 5-8+ years of experience in consumer product design
  • Exceptional at simplifying complex concepts into intuitive, human-centered experiences
  • Deep empathy for users, skilled at designing for sensitive moments
  • Strong systems thinker with experience building and scaling design systems
  • Excellent collaborator and communicator across disciplines
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and making thoughtful tradeoffs quickly
  • Passionate about using design to drive meaningful impact in people’s lives

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with behavioral science or designing for behavior change
  • Experience working on 0-to-1 or early-stage products
  • Curiosity about how design intersects with trust, health literacy, and behavioral change; healthcare background not required

Benefits
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Work From Home

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
