About Wander

Wander is transforming how people explore the world through smart, AI-powered consumer products and real-world travel experiences. We're building the next generation of travel—tools that anticipate traveler needs, empower discovery, and redefine what it means to wander. Join us at the frontier of travel tech, where creativity meets craft and AI shapes the journey.

About the role

As a Design Engineer at Wander, you'll be the bridge between design and code—turning bold, beautiful concepts into real, high-performing products. You’ll work across our web and mobile experiences to bring our AI products, booking flows, and other consumer-facing projects to life. Your work will influence how millions of travelers experience the world.

What you’ll do
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to bring high-fidelity designs to production—polished, performant, and delightful.

  • Build, maintain, and evolve our design system in both Figma and production environments (React, React Native, TypeScript).

  • Prototype and ship interactions, animations, and flows that feel fluid and intuitive.

  • Ensure consistency and accessibility across web and mobile platforms.

  • Help define new interaction patterns for AI-driven travel products

  • Work closely with engineering to balance craft and performance at scale.

What we’re looking for
  • Proven experience (4+ years) as a design engineer, frontend engineer, or fullstack engineer with strong design sensibilities, or designer who codes very fluently.

  • Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript (or similar), with fullstack knowledge

  • Knack for crafting usable, intuitive, and delightful interactions

  • Comfortable moving from concept to coded prototype quickly

  • Experience building or contributing to design systems and component libraries

  • Participate in code reviews within our repo and help level up peers

  • Collaborate cross-functionally on system design and product discovery in an async-first workflow

  • Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code

  • Bonus: experience with AI-powered products or other complex consumer applications

Our Tech Stack
  • Frontend: Next.js, Tailwind, Vercel

  • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Fastify

  • Database/Cache: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka

  • ORM: Prisma

  • LLM: OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, Langfuse

  • Cloud: GCP

Why Wander?
  • Shape elegant AI-powered experiences in a company revolutionizing travel.

  • Join a mission-driven team dedicated to raising hospitality standards through technology.

  • Work remotely with real autonomy and creative ownership.

  • Be part of a fast-growing, venture-backed startup with industry-leading guest satisfaction.

Join Us

If you’re passionate about building world-class travel products, obsessed with craft, and excited about defining the future of AI-powered travel, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and help shape how millions of future wanderers experience the world.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
