Lead and execute Tenstorrents design direction, supporting the Creative Director. Oversee creative output across brand, events, digital, packaging, and docs; own design systems and ensure quality control while working directly with designers and stakeholders.
The summary above was generated by AI

Tenstorrent is leading the industry on cutting-edge AI technology, revolutionizing performance expectations, ease of use, and cost efficiency. With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities.

We’re seeking a Design Director to support the Creative Director and deliver quality design work on a wide range of projects. This is a hands-on role for someone who cares about open hardware, real products, and building the future of computing. You’ll set the design direction for Tenstorrent and make sure everything we ship looks, feels, and reads like it came from one clear point of view. If you’re an artist at heart and equally passionate about next-generation compute built in the open, this role is for you.

This role is remote, based out of the United States.

We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for the appropriate level, and offers will align with that level, which may differ from the one in this posting.

Who You Are

  • you think about design as infrastructure, not decoration.
  • you have taste and opinions, and you’re comfortable owning decisions.
  • you like building things that actually ship and get used.
  • you obsess over the underlying narrative driving projects forward, not just surface solutions.

What We Need

  • experience overseeing creative work across events, swag, decks, investor materials, sub-brands, microsites, social posts, collateral, packaging, offices, photo shoots, industrial design, docs, and customer support collateral.
  • ownership of design systems: brand guidelines, event toolkits, global site standards, and systems for one-pagers and docs.
  • strong quality control instincts across all creative output—brand, message, and craft.
  • comfort working directly with designers and internal stakeholders through review, feedback, and approval.

What You Will Learn

  • what it actually takes to build an open hardware company, beyond the narrative.
  • the ways design earns developer trust and drives long-term adoption.
  • where speed, clarity, and craft collide at real scale.
  • what it means to run a creative function with true autonomy and accountability.
  • how to leave a visible fingerprint on the future of computing, day-by-day.

Compensation for all engineers at Tenstorrent ranges from $100k - $500k including base and variable compensation targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all impact the actual offer made.

Tenstorrent offers a highly competitive compensation package and benefits, and we are an equal opportunity employer.

This offer of employment is contingent upon the applicant being eligible to access U.S. export-controlled technology.  Due to U.S. export laws, including those codified in the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Company is required to ensure compliance with these laws when transferring technology to nationals of certain countries (such as EAR Country Groups D:1, E1, and E2).   These requirements apply to persons located in the U.S. and all countries outside the U.S.  As the position offered will have direct and/or indirect access to information, systems, or technologies subject to these laws, the offer may be contingent upon your citizenship/permanent residency status or ability to obtain prior license approval from the U.S. Commerce Department or applicable federal agency.  If employment is not possible due to U.S. export laws, any offer of employment will be rescinded.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
