Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)

to manage, maintain, and optimize our mission-critical SQL Server databases hosted on AWS

EC2, supporting a high-availability, low-latency trading application. The ideal candidate will

have deep expertise in SQL Server administration, AWS infrastructure, and a strong

understanding of the performance and reliability demands of financial/trading systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance & Optimization

  • Monitor and tune SQL Server performance using tools like SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, DMVs, and Query Store.

  • Identify and resolve query bottlenecks, index fragmentation, and blocking/deadlock issues.

  • Optimize indexes, execution plans, and stored procedures to meet sub-millisecond latency requirements of the trading platform.

  • Conduct regular performance benchmarking and capacity reviews.

Database Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server (2019/2022) instances on AWS EC2 environments.

  • Manage multiple SQL Server instances across Development, UAT, and Production environments.

  • Perform database capacity planning, storage management, and performance tuning.

  • Implement and maintain database security, including user roles, permissions, and auditing.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  • Design, implement, and manage High Availability (HA) solutions including:

- Always On Availability Groups (AG)

- SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)

- Log Shipping and Database Mirroring

  • Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) plans and conduct regular DR drills.

  • Ensure RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) targets are consistently met.

AWS EC2 & Cloud Management

  • Manage SQL Server deployments on AWS EC2 instances, including instance sizing,

  • EBS volume management, and network configuration.

  • Leverage AWS services such as:

- Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring

- AWS Backup for automated backups

- AWS VPC, Security Groups, IAM for access control

- Amazon S3 for backup storage

  • Optimize EC2 instance types (e.g., r5, x1e families) for memory-intensive SQL workloads.

  • Manage SQL Server licensing in AWS environments (BYOL / License Included).

Backup & Recovery

  • Design and implement comprehensive backup strategies (Full, Differential, Transaction

  • Log backups).

  • Automate backup processes and store backups securely on Amazon S3.

  • Perform regular backup validation and restoration testing.

  • Ensure compliance with data retention policies.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement SQL Server security best practices including encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted), auditing, and access controls.

  • Ensure compliance with financial industry regulations (e.g., SOX, PCI-DSS, GDPR as applicable).

  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and apply security patches.

  • Manage SQL Server certificates and encryption keys.

Monitoring & Incident Management

  • Set up proactive monitoring and alerting for SQL Server health, performance, and availability.

  • Respond to and resolve P1/P2 database incidents with urgency, given the critical nature of the trading platform.

  • Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 support coverage.

  • Maintain detailed incident logs and post-mortem reports.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with application developers, DevOps, and trading system architects to

  • support database design and schema changes.

  • Review and approve database change requests and deployment scripts.

  • Maintain comprehensive database documentation including architecture diagrams,

  • runbooks, and SOPs.

  • Participate in CAB (Change Advisory Board) meetings for production changes.
