About the Role
The Data Warehouse Engineer serves as an analytics specialist in the business, focusing on the management of data from various sources. In this position, the Data Warehouse Engineer gains exposure to almost all departments of the business, client services, marketing, account management, and IT among others. The Data Warehouse Engineer aids by providing various departments with data modeling, data analysis, reporting, and dashboard solutions that will enable the achievement of the business’s overall goals.
The role involves the definition and execution of detailed requirements, the analysis of the business’s needs, and the validation of reporting solutions within the business. The role additionally entails working with internal applications in an effort to enable high-quality products/services for the business’s clients leading to customer satisfaction and the ultimate achievement of goals.
Responsibilities:
- Experience in gathering requirements and formulating business metrics for reporting
- Work with technical and business stakeholders to capture requirements related to data and data solutions
- Develop and maintain logical and physical data models using best practices and company standards to ensure high data quality, reduced data redundancy, and good query performance
- Optimize and update logical and physical data models to support new and existing projects and ensure business users are working in a clean safe data environment
- Document database processes that currently extract the data from the existing system for reporting purposes
- Define and document the technical architecture of the data warehouse, including the physical components and their functionality, data models and data dictionaries
- Assist in the definition of enterprise wide data models that drive clarity and ease of use for analysts throughout the organization
- Design and build data models or information marts that will meet business requirements and align with our enterprise architecture
- Get a deep understanding of business rules and transformations logic used by various groups within the company
- Provide solution expertise to cross functional delivery teams and domain Product Owners
- Work with Product Owners and stakeholders to scope projects and conceptualize project plans
- Provide architecture thought leadership and actively participate in the design, implementation, and roll-out efforts
- Experience as an ETL engineer with a track record of delivering design solutions
- Troubleshoot data integrity issues, analyze data for completeness to meet business needs, and propose solutions and recommendations
- Understand and implement best practices in managing enterprise data including master data, data quality, lineage and security
- Using Looker, develop LookML models, dashboards and reports for both internal and external use
Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field or a minimum of 3 year’s working as a Data Engineer
- 2+ years professional experience in the data warehouse space
- Expert Proficiency with Python and AWS Services (e.g. Redshift, S3)
- 2+ years’ experience in custom ETL design, implementation and maintenance
- In depth knowledge of how to write and optimize SQL statements.
- Deep familiarity with distributed processing (Map Reduce, MPP, etc.)
- 2+ years’ experience with schema design (logical and physical)
- Ability to quickly learn complex domains
- Innately curious and organized with the drive to analyze data to identify deliverables, anomalies and gaps and propose solutions to address these findings
- Ability to manage and communicate data warehouse plans
- Thrives in fast-paced startup environment
