THE PURPOSE:

• The purpose of the Business Strategy team is to conduct market analysis to create business requirements and guide the Project Operations and Engineering teams, to develop the company’s business model, and to assist in the corporate and project financing process.
• The primary purpose of this role is to establish and drive the business strategy for the cargo and logistics use case. This strategy should inform our go-to-market strategy, monetization model, and product definition.
• The secondary purpose of this role is to support general Business Strategy team functions, including market and project analysis, business model, and corporate fundraising.

THE ROLE:

• Drive business strategy for freight business case. Provide proactive thought leadership on use case and strategy studies and champion that strategy through to execution by assisting the business development team.
• Lead conceptual phase of project to stimulate discussions with internal and external stakeholders. Collects and defines business requirements and translates into functional outcomes for complex projects. Creates and reviews business cases, use cases, and story boards with key internal stakeholders.
• Interface with Lead Transportation Economist to model project level economics, including revenues and costs, of cargo flows on transport systems. Analyze and simulate container, pallet, and parcel flows through ports, airports, industrial zones, container depots, warehouses, etc. Analyze handling costs to inform cost models and full business case development.
• Work closely with Business Strategy and Product Engineering teams to help define freight system requirements.
• Source and lead discussions with strategy cargo and logistics partners to build and validate the business case.
• Leverage knowledge of industry to provide insights into targeted markets, geographies, governments.
• Effectively, concisely, and accurately summarize findings
• Thoroughly document assumptions, interpret outputs, and make recommendations
• Support general Business Strategy team activities and responsibilities as assigned.

THE CANDIDATE:

• Thrives in ambiguity and can provide strategic and thoughtful direction in new commercial and technology frontiers
• Ability to navigate an ambiguous environment and entrepreneurial drive, to handle stress well and maintain a positive attitude and intellectual curiosity
• Needs to be at ease in complex cross-functional environments, be able to engage with internal executives at a senior level, and be able to work independently in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Has exemplary written and verbal English communication skills
• Genuine curiosity and interest in advanced technologies and application in global transportation markets

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• BS in business, economics, engineering, math, or statistics required or equivalent work experience
• Proven success in cargo and logistics strategy positions either in industry or consulting
• Experience creating slide decks for internal and external stakeholders
• Critical thinking and creative problem solving
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Advanced degree in economics, math, operations, or statistics preferred
