Job Summary
The Strategic and Global Awareness Directorate (Project West Wing) provides technical intelligence analysis and research for a broad range of national security space and intelligence community customers. The Space and Global Security (SGS) team works to provide unique, timely and independent assessments and counsel pertaining to current and future threats to the use of space as well as the effectiveness of strategic deterrents.
What You’ll Be Doing
Actively contribute to a high-performing team bringing technical skills to bear to characterize the fast-moving field of space threats and its implications to U.S. National Security Space. Participate in a wide-range of technical activities, work with technical intelligence, analyze threats to space programs, and influence customer decisions on important National Security Space topics.
Duties:
- Develop and maintain (for PE; “Take a technical leadership role in developing and maintaining” for SPE) a comprehensive awareness and understanding of current and developing threats to current and future U.S. national security space systems, architectures, and missions. Specific threat domains of interest include but are not limited to: orbital and ground-based kinetic energy, directed energy, and electronic warfare systems; navwar; supply chain; sabotage; signals intercept; nuclear; cyber/spacecyber; conventional; and non-conventional threats throughout the world.
- Form teams with other SGAD and engineering group staff to perform accurate in-depth research, detailed modeling, or other multi-disciplinary engineering analysis required to complete tasks.
- Proactively identify and articulate key threat issues and the impact of those issues on SMC and other internal and government customer concerns; advocate for research tasks to address key national security counterspace and nuclear deterrence issues at both the strategic and tactical levels.
- Build and maintain relationships with other Aerospace colleagues and intelligence community and national security space organizations to facilitate the exchange of information and data, and maintain and enhance products and processes to ensure the relevance of the group’s analyses.
- Protect and maintain the organization’s reputation for integrity and unbiased, independent, high-quality analysis.
- Gather, assimilate, process, and analyze a wide variety of open source and other forms of data and information; apply intelligence analysis, scientific, and/or engineering methods to draw conclusions and extrapolate answers to both specific and general scientific and technical threat intelligence questions.
- Prepare high quality written technical reports, and prepare and deliver briefings to audiences ranging from peers to high-level government decisionmakers.
- Assist in identifying, acquiring/developing, and leveraging analytical tools and date capture techniques.
- Travel as required to contractor locations, government facilities, and other Aerospace offices.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline is required. A master’s degree in an appropriate science/engineering discipline is strongly preferred. The research skills demonstrated by a Doctorate-level degree are desirable.
- Eight (PE; Twelve for SPE) or more years of experience in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline is required. Significant exposure to threat and/or risk analysis, and the intelligence and national security space communities is desirable.
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and creative problem solving.
- Strong demonstrated written and oral communication skills are required to collaborate with peers and customers and generate deliverable products.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal and working relationships with various levels of corporate staff, peers, management, program offices, customers, and contractors.
- Demonstrated initiative and strong technical leadership skills, with proven ability to work with and build teams.
- The ability to travel is required.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Must have or be eligible for a Top Secret clearance and SCI access. Current TS/SCI strongly preferred.
