What we do

Cruisebound is on a mission to bring the joy of cruising to all travelers by making online booking as simple as possible. We believe that in a world where you can do almost anything online, it shouldn’t be so hard to book the perfect cruise vacation. If you are excited about using technology to drastically improve the way cruisers find and book their perfect vacation, Cruisebound is the right place for you.

What we’re looking for

Cruisebound is seeking to hire a Data Scientist to support its growing business and increasingly complex data needs. This is an early-to-mid career role, ideal for someone with a strong foundation in data and a desire to grow their analytical and machine learning skills in a high-impact environment. In this role, you will split your time between transforming data into actionable insights and building machine learning models that enhance our product and decision-making. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical skills, has passion for data, and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly and concisely.

Your responsibilities

As a data scientist, you will play an integral role in turning Cruisebound's data into insights, models, and tools that drive the business forward. Your responsibilities will evolve as the company grows, but initially will include:

  • Build, train, and evaluate machine learning models that improve our product and internal decision-making, from prototype through to real-world use
  • Prototype end-to-end solutions that turn ideas into working tools and proofs of concept, using AI-assisted development to move quickly
  • Support AI-assisted stakeholder analyses, dashboard development, and data visualizations to drive decision-making across teams
  • Document data processes to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity
  • Collaborate with product, supply, partnership, marketing, and operations teams to understand data requirements and provide tailored data solutions
  • Partner with data engineers to productionize models and analyses, and help maintain their reliability over time
The ideal candidate
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis, modeling, and machine learning
  • A solid foundation in statistics and machine learning concepts, including model building, evaluation, and common algorithm families
  • Experience with data visualization and BI tools, such as Holistics, Tableau, or Power BI
  • A bias toward action and a builder's mindset: comfortable taking an idea from concept to a working, end-to-end prototype and iterating from there
  • Genuine curiosity about data, with a habit of pursuing self-driven analyses beyond initial requests
  • Desire to use AI to accelerate your work, and a drive to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment
  • Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Although not required, candidates with the following skills will have an advantage in the recruiting process: familiarity with modern data stack (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, git, Airflow), and familiarity with software engineering best practices
Compensation and benefits

The compensation package for this position comprises: (1) a base salary ranging from $90,000 to $110,000 depending on the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills, (2) an employee stock option grant, and (3) an annual bonus up to 20% of base salary based on a mix of individual and company performance. In addition, we also offer our employees a comprehensive range of benefits including but not limited to:

  • Excellent health care insurance (medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, etc.)
  • Generous personal paid time off (PTO) allowance beginning with 20 days in the first year, plus 2 additional days per year of tenure (up to 30 days total)
  • 4 company-wide holidays (first Friday of each quarter) and 12 public holidays observed
  • $1,000 annual cruise credit to use on Cruisebound.com and additional employee rebates
  • $100/month communication credit intended for cell phone and Wi-Fi expenses

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
