We deliver user-friendly corporate applications, manage complex data ecosystems, and provide efficient tech solutions across the organization. Our goal is simple: we make it easy for the business to do what’s right for Clover.

We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join our team. You will develop data pipelines and tools to support our analytics and machine learning initiatives. Applying insights through data is a core part of our company’s mission, and your work will play a key role in making a wide variety of data easily accessible for internal and external consumers.

Our primary technologies include SQL, Python, and Snowflake. You will collaborate with data analysts, engineers, and healthcare professionals to build tools that improve real people’s health. This role requires extensive experience leading data warehousing projects and advanced knowledge in data cleansing, ingestion, ETL, and data governance.

As a Data Platform Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with operations, IT, and vendor partners to understand the data landscape and contribute to the vision, development, and implementation of our Data Warehouse solution.
  • Recommend technologies and tools to support the future-state architecture.
  • Develop standards, processes, and procedures aligned with best practices in data governance and management.
  • Oversee logical and physical data modeling, load performance, and query optimization.
  • Develop new and secure data feeds with external parties and internal applications.
  • Perform regular analysis, QA, and troubleshooting of ETL processes, diagnosing issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Work cross-functionally to support the design, development, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of new ETL programs.

Success in this role looks like:

  • In the first 90 days:
    • Develop a strong understanding of our existing data ecosystem and pipelines.
    • Build relationships with various stakeholders to understand their day-to-day operations and data needs.
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of new ETL programs to support business growth and operational efficiency.
    • Perform root cause analysis for identified issues and propose solutions for both short-term fixes and long-term improvements to enhance the stability and accuracy of our pipelines.
  • In the first 6 months:
    • Provide feedback and propose process improvements for data engineering operations.
    • Work with platform engineers to improve data ecosystem stability, quality monitoring, and governance.
    • Lead discussions with key stakeholders and propose, design, and implement new data engineering projects that solve critical business problems.
  • Long-term success:
    • Enhance and maintain ETL programs and data assets.
    • Serve as the technical lead for the data engineering squad’s day-to-day operations.
    • Mentor and guide junior team members.

You should get in touch if:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and 5+ years of experience in ETL programming.
  • You have professional experience in a healthcare setting (Health Plan knowledge is highly desired; Medicare experience is preferred).
  • You have expertise in most of the following technologies:
    • Python
    • Snowflake
    • DBT
    • Airflow
    • GCP / AWS / BigQuery
    • PostgreSQL
    • Data Governance best practices
  • You have some experience with analytics, data science, and ML collaboration tools (e.g., Tableau, Mode, Looker).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
