Hi there :)

Thanks for checking in to find out about our open position. We´ll provide as much information as possible, but please feel free to reach us if you have further questions. We´ll be happy to see your application, even if there are skills you don't quite master!

About Us

At South Geeks, we connect top LATAM talent with fast-growing technology companies building meaningful, long-term products. We focus on strong partnerships, transparency, and creating environments where people can grow while taking real ownership of their work.

About the Client

Our client builds digital platforms for local governments, helping modernize public-sector operations by replacing legacy, paper-based workflows with secure, scalable, and user-friendly web applications. Their solutions improve operational efficiency, transparency, and citizen engagement across essential government services.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Data Migration Engineer to join the client’s team and support ongoing data migrations for new customer implementations. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role suited for someone with experience in corporate or enterprise data migrations who is comfortable working in a fast-moving, startup-style environment.

You’ll be responsible for migrating client data from previous vendors into the platform—often working with raw, imperfect datasets—while collaborating directly with internal teams and, at times, with clients. Over time, you’ll also help move the team toward better tooling and automation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute end-to-end data migrations for new client implementations.

  • Extract, map, clean, and import data from legacy systems into the platform.

  • Build and maintain custom, manual data importers using Python and SQL.

  • Review test data with clients, gather feedback, and iterate on migration results.

  • Manage and prioritize multiple concurrent migrations aligned with account go-live timelines.

  • Collaborate closely with another Data Migration Engineer and cross-functional teams.

  • Contribute ideas toward automation and process improvements as the platform evolves.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Professional experience working on data migrations or ETL workflows in a corporate or enterprise context.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python for data manipulation and transformation.

  • Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

  • Experience with manual data mapping, cleaning, and validation.

  • Ability to work with raw, inconsistent, or incomplete datasets.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort making decisions with imperfect information.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet SLA-driven deadlines.

  • Comfortable communicating with internal stakeholders and, when needed, client-facing teams.

Nice to Have
  • Interest in or experience using AI tools to improve productivity and data workflows.

  • Experience working in startup or high-growth environments.

  • Familiarity with tools like Linear or Jira.

  • Exposure to building toward automation in otherwise manual processes.

Our Team

We strive to create an inspiring and growth-oriented environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered. We promote both personal and professional development, with individualized support for your needs and goals. We aim to build a space where everyone can thrive.

What We Offer
  • Long-term projects

  • 100% remote work

  • Payment in USD

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Work-from-home & training reimbursement

  • English lessons

  • Technical training

  • Career coaching

Note: This position is open to candidates based in LATAM. Availability to work aligned with Eastern Time is required.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
