About Your Team:

Our team includes Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and people who simply enjoy working with data. Many of us arrived here through different paths—engineering, analytics, research, and beyond—but we share a common curiosity about data and a commitment to building systems that help others trust and use it.

About the Intern Role:

We are looking for a motivated Data Engineering Intern to join our data team and help build and maintain reliable data pipelines that power analytics and decision-making across the organization. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience working with modern data tools and cloud platforms while collaborating with experienced data engineers and analysts.

This internship is designed to provide exposure to real-world data engineering practices, including data modeling, pipeline orchestration, and data quality. You will have the opportunity to contribute to production systems and learn how scalable data platforms are built and maintained.

Internship Responsibilities will Include:

  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows

  • Writing SQL queries to transform, validate, and analyze data

  • Supporting the design and implementation of data models used for analytics and reporting

  • Monitoring pipeline performance and helping troubleshoot data issues

  • Working with orchestration tools to schedule and manage data workflow

  • Documenting data pipelines, datasets, and engineering processes

  • Collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders on data initiatives

About You:

You are curious about how data systems work and excited to learn how large datasets are processed and transformed into meaningful insights. You enjoy solving problems, writing code, and learning new technologies. You are comfortable asking questions, collaborating with others, and taking ownership of tasks as you grow your technical skills.

Candidates for this role should have:

  • Basic experience with SQL and data analysis concepts

  • Familiarity with Python or another programming language

  • Understanding of basic data structures and software development practice

  • Interest in data pipelines, data warehouses, and distributed systems

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

It is the policy of People Inc. to provide employment opportunities regardless of age, physical or mental disability, race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws. In addition, the Company will provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. Accommodation requests can be made by emailing [email protected].

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
