Data Engineer

At Particle Health, our mission is to unlock the power of medical records in an intelligent platform that focuses healthcare back on the patient. We do that through connecting our customers to national and state medical record exchanges, which facilitates medical record sharing and interoperability.  That also gives us access to arguably some of the best fully longitudinal data on millions of patients.  Our energy is then spent organizing and processing that data, making that data useful in different settings. Powered by this data, we are building a data platform offering important clinical insights to our customers.  Our customers are Healthcare AI companies building solutions, digital healthcare providers, payers, EHR, & condition-specific platforms. 

About the Role

At Particle Health, data is at the core of everything we do. As a Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and optimizing the data systems that power our products and enable better healthcare outcomes.

You’ll work with rich and diverse datasets — including EHR, prescription, and healthcare provider data — to design and maintain pipelines that help make healthcare data more accessible and actionable. You’ll collaborate closely with senior engineers, product managers, and data scientists to support our evolving data infrastructure, improve quality and reliability, and enable analytics that help customers deliver better patient care.

Location & Work Schedule

This is a hybrid role based in New York City. The team works in-office two days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), so applicants should be within commuting distance and comfortable with in-person collaboration.

What You’ll Do

Data Engineering (Primary Focus)

• Build, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and enrichment.

• Build sophisticated data and analytics products
  
• Support data quality, monitoring, and reliability across multiple healthcare datasets.
  
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design features that improve patient care.
  
• Help improve and evolve our data infrastructure to reduce manual work and improve efficiency.

Collaboration & Impact

• Partner closely with data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to understand data needs and deliver reliable solutions.
  
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and cross-functional projects.
  
• Continuously learn and grow within a supportive engineering culture that values curiosity and collaboration.
  

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
  
• Strong skills in Python and SQL. Experience with Spark or other distributed data processing frameworks.
  
• Experience building or maintaining data pipelines, ideally using modern data tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, dbt).
  
• Curiosity and problem-solving mindset — you enjoy exploring complex datasets and finding ways to improve them.
  
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  
• A proactive learner who enjoys tackling new challenges and growing in a fast-moving environment.
  

Nice to Have

• Experience working with healthcare data (such as EHR, FHIR, HL7, or claims data) — or a strong interest in learning healthcare data systems.

• Experience working with data lake or warehouse technologies (e.g., Iceberg, Delta Lake, BigQuery).
  
• Exposure to data modeling concepts and performance optimization.
  
• Familiarity with healthcare standards such as CCDA, FHIR, or HL7v2.
  
• Previous experience in a SaaS or cloud-based data environment.

Compensation Range: For this role, we’re targeting a salary range of $130,000–$160,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. If your background aligns more closely with a higher or lower level than the scope outlined here, compensation may vary accordingly.
