540 is looking for a Data Engineer to develop a data transformation and workflow solution for an impactful part of the U.S. Army. You will deploy and operate a replacement for a legacy financial system to the cloud, and innovate new cloud-first solutions for the U.S. Army’s data management ecosystem. You will be responsible for the data pipeline cloud components, security, governance, and overall successful delivery of working software. You will work with multiple teams on problems that require architectural thinking and programming skills to design the system. 

Location: Remote within the continental United States, East Coast working hours with some flexibility afforded. Occasional travel may be required (3-4x annually)
Citizenship & Clearance Requirement: per client requirements, must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field (preferred)

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of related experience
  • Well-versed in Python
  • Experience with the following:
    • Building and managing data pipelines 
    • Consuming data via APIs
    • GitLab
    • Working via the terminal / command line
    • Jira and Confluence
    • AWS cloud services
    • AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, AWS S3, Cloudwatch Logs
    • Pytest and testing best practices
    • Variety of file formats (x12, json, flat, fixed width)
    • Maintaining data pipelines with tables containing over a billion rows / records
    • Working with DoD systems and data
  • Ability to discern file and json format requirements from vague contexts
  • Currently possesses or able to obtain in 30 days the following certifications:
    • AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification (or higher) 
    • CompTIA Security+ certification (or higher)
