Pay range: $140k - $160k w/ 10% bonus

Core communication hours: 9am-6pm ET / 8am - 5pm CT / 8am -5pm MT / 7am - 5pm PT


Job Summary: 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Engineer to join our growing team. The Data Engineer will play a crucial role in the integration and management of data across systems, applications and platforms for Roadrunner's business needs. They will build and maintain our data infrastructure, enabling RoadRunner to make data-driven decisions that optimize processes and maximize impact. This role requires a strong understanding of data engineering principles, experience with cloud-based data warehousing and pipelining, and a passion for efficient, and scalable data solutions.


Primary Duties Including % of time

  • 30% - Design and implement data integrations solutions connecting systems, applications and platforms
  • 30% - Maintain and optimize existing data pipelines, databases, warehouses and API integrations
  • 10% - Contribute in shaping the Technical Stack for future data integrations
  • 15% - Establish design patterns and separation of data usage between Technology and Analysis
  • 15% - Develop and optimize queries for technical and business needs

Travel required: Less than 5%


Organizational Relationship:

● Reports To: CTO for now but will report to a Platform Engineering Manager in the near future

● Direct Reports: None

● Interacts with: Software Engineers, Platform Engineers, Product Management, Analysis


Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in integrations engineering, data engineering or a similar role
  • Expertise in database and data warehouse/lake design, upgrading and querying, including strong proficiency in SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Experience with data ETL tools such as Fivetran, DMS and DBT
  • 3+ years of experience in AWS cloud platform and related data engineering services (RDS, DMS, kinesis, Kafka, Athena, Glue, etc).
  • Experience with API integrations and building connectors for third-party data
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Be able to articulate complex problems, technical approaches, and decisions in a business context.
  • Comfortable taking a leadership role on an agile team and close collaboration in a remote setting.
  • Takes ownership for solutions with minimal supervision. Holds self and team members accountable for overall success.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, ability to act without having the whole picture using sound judgment and strong decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to ever changing business needs and priorities.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or related field REQUIRED

Our Interview Process: What to Expect

1. Application Review

2. Recruiter Phone Screen
  • Format: A brief, conversational call with a recruiter.

  • Focus: This is an opportunity to discuss your background, introduce you to our company culture, and ensure the role is a good fit for your career goals.

3. Technical Assessment (Woven)
  • Format: If you move forward, you'll be asked to complete a Woven assessment.

  • Focus: This step helps us evaluate your practical skills and problem-solving approach in a real-world context.

4. Meeting the CTO
  • Format: A 30-minute virtual meeting via Zoom.

  • Focus: This is a chance for our CTO to learn about your technical philosophy and for you to ask high-level questions about our technology strategy and vision.

5. Team Deep Dive (Final Interview)
  • Format: A 1.5-hour virtual interview via Zoom with members of the team.

  • Focus: This final step is an in-depth discussion where you'll meet future colleagues, explore specific job responsibilities, and dive deeper into technical scenarios and teamwork dynamics.
