Key Responsibilities
- Data Pipeline Development:
- Design, implement, and optimize scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support various analytics needs.
- Data Warehouse Management:
- Develop and maintain robust data warehouses and analytics infrastructure on cloud platforms.
- Client Collaboration:
- Engage with clients to understand their data requirements and deliver customized data engineering solutions.
- Proof-of-Concepts & MVPs:
- Create proof-of-concepts and minimum viable products (MVPs) to test ideas and gather client feedback rapidly.
- Documentation & Communication:
- Write clear and comprehensive documentation.
- Effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Client Engagement:
- Participate in client meetings, providing expertise and insights in data engineering.
- Continuous Learning:

Must Have Qualifications
- Build & Own Data Systems:
- You’ve built and maintained production-grade data pipelines using SQL, Python, and Spark
- You use DBT as a core part of your transformation layer—not an afterthought
- Modern Data Stack Fluency:
- You’ve worked hands-on with at least one modern warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks) and understand how to model for it
- You’re comfortable operating in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Orchestration & Ingestion:
- You’ve shipped pipelines using an orchestrator (Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect)
- You’ve integrated data using tools like Airbyte, Fivetran, or Polytomic (or built equivalent ingestion patterns)
- Shipping Mindset:
- You use CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Terraform, or similar) to ship reliably
- You write code that other people can read, trust, and build on
Nice to Have
- Depth > Tools:
- You’ve worked across multiple warehouses, orchestration, or ingestion tools—and have opinions about tradeoffs
- Infrastructure Awareness:
- You’re comfortable with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar infrastructure patterns
- Data as a Product:
- You think about data quality, governance, and reliability as first-class concerns
- Scale & Efficiency:
- You’ve optimized pipelines for performance, cost, and reliability in real-world environments

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
