About Us:

Camber builds software to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare. We streamline and replace manual work so clinicians can focus on what they do best: providing great care. For more details on our thesis, check out our write-up: What is Camber?

We’ve raised $50M in funding from phenomenal supporters at a16z, Craft Ventures, YCombinator, Manresa, and many others who are committed to improving the accessibility of care. For more information, take a look at: Announcing Camber

About our Culture:

Our mission to change behavioral health starts with us and how we operate. We don’t want to just change behavioral health, we want to change the way startups operate. Here are a few tactical examples:

1) Improving accessibility and quality of healthcare is something we live and breathe. Everyone on Camber’s team cares deeply about helping clinicians and patients.

2) We have to have a sense of humor. Healthcare is so broken, it's depressing if you don't laugh with us.

**We are reposting this role after our initial job post was spammed by thousands of fake applicants. If you applied to a previous Data Analyst role at Camber and remain interested, please apply again! Thank you!

About the role:

Our team is growing rapidly, and we’re looking for mission-driven, customer-focused data folks who care about creating positive impact, love working directly with users to solve challenging problems, and who will thrive in the fast-paced start-up life. This person will work with both technical and non-technical teammates to design and drive investigations into complex business problems, and to propose data-informed solutions.

What you'll do:
  • Autonomously propose and execute on investigations to answer ambiguous business questions with data, leveraging SQL and statistics.

  • Explore, identify, and surface trends and opportunities of growth proactively.

  • Conduct user research with cross-functional teams (operations, engineering, billing, etc.) to define analytics requirements, help them answer questions with data analysis, and serve as a translator between functions using data.

  • Provide operational/useful insights to improve business critical metrics with a focus on the growth of the business.

  • Visualize, communicate, and present findings in an easily understandable and compelling way to teammates across the organization and to leadership.

What we're looking for:
  • Deep anchor on delivering for users — orientation towards solving real problems for real people.

  • Passion for customer discovery and user research.

  • Penchant for analysis — outstanding analytical modeling and business problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working with large datasets to extract, manipulate and analyze data using SQL.

  • Synthesis & communication skills — an ability to reduce sophisticated operational subjects into understandable and useful informational summaries and recommendations.

  • Throughput, velocity, and independence — an ability to drive and build projects from 0 to 1.

  • The ability to identify problems, build alignment, and implement solutions autonomously.

  • Bias for action — a drive to dive in head-first into ambiguous problems, and to get hands dirty to find solutions.

  • Growth mindset — a mentality of approaching unknowns with excitement, a penchant for learning new skills and technologies to solve new data challenges.

Nice to have:
  • Experience with visualization tools for data reporting such as Tableau, Looker

  • Knowledge of ETL pipeline development using Python, dbt, or other languages/technologies

  • Experience working with health insurance data

Camber is based in New York City, and we prioritize in-person and hybrid candidates. Please refer to the top of this page for this position's hiring location.

Building an inclusive culture is one of our core tenets as a company. We’re very aware of structural inequalities that exist, and recognize that underrepresented minorities are less likely to apply for a role if they don’t think they meet all of the requirements. If that’s you and you’re reading this, we’d like to encourage you to apply regardless — we’d love to get to know you and see if there’s a place for you here!

In addition, we take security seriously, and all of our employees contribute to uphold security requirements and maintain compliance with HIPAA security regulations.

Compensation Range: $140K - $170K

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
