Job Description:
Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, and saving enough for whatever lies ahead – our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It’s a big ask, but it’s one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate – pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it’s a career with purpose. It’s a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.
We’re actively seeking a talented Data Analyst II to join our Life Policyholder Behavior Experience Studies team in Newport Beach, CA. This role follows a hybrid schedule of four days in the office (on-site). If you are not currently located near one of our offices, we offer comprehensive relocation benefits.
As a Data Analyst II, you’ll move Pacific Life and your career forward by improving the quality and accessibility of data that supports actuarial assumptions and predictive models. You will join a team of four in the Consumer Markets Division, working alongside data scientists and actuaries with expertise in life insurance policyholder behavior.
How You’ll Help Move Us Forward
Gather data from multiple source systems, clean and organize messy or incomplete datasets, and prepare them for use in actuarial models and analyses
Validate data quality by applying business context and domain knowledge, understanding enough of the actuarial workflow to recognize when something doesn’t look right
Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines and transformation logic, with an interest in growing these skills over time
Document data sources, definitions, and known issues to improve team knowledge and data reliability
Fulfill data requests from actuaries, data scientists, and other stakeholders by writing SQL queries against our Snowflake environment, assessing results for reasonableness, and identifying errors or anomalies before delivering outputs
Build lightweight visualizations and exploratory analyses using tools like Streamlit and Sigma to support team workflows and ad-hoc requests
The Experience You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field
2+ years of experience in data analytics or a related field
Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write queries, interpret results, and assess data for accuracy and completeness
Proficiency in Python and/or R for data manipulation and analysis
Experience with Snowflake SQL or similar cloud data platforms
Attention to detail and a methodical approach to working with messy or complex data
What Makes You Stand Out
Background in insurance, actuarial science, or financial services
Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as pipelines, ETL processes, or workflow orchestration
