The USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute and Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (INI, www.ini.usc.edu) are world leaders in the development of advanced computational and scientific approaches for the comprehensive mapping of brain structure and function. LONI’s unique multidisciplinary environment and cutting-edge resources allow for integration of clinical, psychological and genotypic information with neuroimaging phenotypes for research questions in neurology, psychiatry and developmental neurobiology.

The Laboratory of Neuro Imaging has been at the forefront of neuroimaging research for almost three decades and maintains a large research data repository through which thousands of scientists obtain data to study normal development, aging, and disease progression. Our team is dedicated to making a difference through improving access to neuroscience research data. 

We are looking for a full-time Data Analysis manager with extensive experience in leading  ETL, data mapping and data modeling team activities. This individual will play a vital role in expanding our informatics systems and facilitating research into neurological diseases and disorders. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform and supervise efforts to:
    • Profile source data and create source-to-target data mappings
    • Perform data quality/integrity checks matching pre- and post-mapped data
    • Identify & address problems that may impact data mapping/data integration
    • Perform data modeling and data manipulation using SQL and rules-based languages
    • Document and communicate progress, problems and related issues
  • Implement best practices in data quality and meta data management
  • Assist with database maintenance tasks

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Solid knowledge of database structures, theories, principles and practices
  • Ability to read, write, execute and evaluate SQL, stored procedures, functions and triggers
  • Working knowledge of UNIX and experience writing shell scripts
  • Familiarity with data integration strategies
  • Ability to create, monitor and execute test scripts 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java a plus
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management and organization skills with an attention to detail

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supervising data analysts
  • Experience working with complex data models and data relationships
  • Previous experience performing data profiling, data mapping and metadata management
  • Strong database design and SQL skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of data model entities and their relationships
  • Expertise in data harmonization

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required (Computer Science or Informatics preferred)

The annual base salary range for this position is up to $142,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Skills:
Extensive management experience in data modeling, warehousing, and reporting.
Comprehensive knowledge of database, spreadsheet, word processing, and statistical software programs in mainframe and personal computer environments.
Demonstrated attention to detail, and skills in collaboration, critical analysis, problem solving, and discretion.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree Statistics Or

Bachelor's degree Computer Science Or
Bachelor's degree in related field(s)
Preferred Experience:
5 years of management experience in data modeling, warehousing, and reporting.
Preferred Skills:
Experience managing data for a college or university.
