Who are we?

The Motley Fool is a purpose-driven financial services company on a mission to make the world smarter, happier, and richer. For 30 years we’ve been helping people make better investment decisions through transparency, education, and Foolish fun. We’re a fast-moving, collaborative team that values high-quality work, curiosity, and initiative. We care deeply about what we do, and we’re driven by the impact our work has on real people’s financial futures.

What does this team do?

We launched Motley Fool Money within The Motley Fool to rate and review critical financial products like credit cards, mortgages, brokers, banking accounts, insurances, personal loans, and more. There’s some good (and a lot of bad) advice out there, and we’re cutting through the noise that often leaves people feeling helpless and insecure about these key financial decisions.

As our library of content and product grows, our compliance team plays a critical role: ensuring everything we publish is accurate, up to date, and aligned with both regulatory standards and partner requirements. This means not just correcting content, but shaping processes to prevent risk in the first place.

What would you do in this role?

In this role, you’ll partner closely with the Head of Compliance to run the day-to-day operations of our compliance program—and you’ll often take the lead yourself. You’ll partner closely with editorial, legal, paid media, and tech to ensure our content and product coverage (mostly related to credit cards) are accurate, compliant, and responsive to fast-moving changes in the industry.

You will be proactively mitigating compliance risks through automated and manual content reviews and working with affiliate partners on product updates and launches to ensure content is always up-to-date and meets regulatory requirements.

But what does this role actually do?

  • Own day-to-day content reviews- identifying, investigating, and resolving compliance issues with speed and precision
  • Collaborate with editorial and SEO teams to build and champion compliance best practices
  • Liaise with affiliate partners to ensure content reflects current product terms
  • Partner with legal to interpret contract language and apply it to real-world editorial challenges
  • Help define and scale new systems to make compliance more proactive and efficient
  • Monitor ongoing product updates across our verticals, prioritizing highest-risk and highest-revenue areas

What do you need to apply?

  • 4+ years of experience in compliance, risk management, or a related field—ideally in a fast-paced, content-driven environment
  • A proven ability to manage the day-to-day implementation of compliance programs, while also identifying opportunities to improve and streamline them
  • Hyper-organization, responsiveness, and a meticulous eye for detail—you catch what others miss and follow through every time
  • A proactive, self-starting mindset—you take initiative, anticipate roadblocks, and don’t wait to be told what needs doing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—you can explain complex requirements clearly to partners across editorial, legal, and tech
  • The ability to make judgment calls under pressure and balance risk appropriately—you know when to ask questions and when to trust your instincts
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and building structure as you go—you thrive in environments where the path isn’t fully mapped out
Curiosity, adaptability, and a hunger to keep learning—you stay on top of regulatory shifts, industry trends, and new tools that can make your work smarter

It’s even better if you have…

  • Direct experience in compliance and risk management within the personal finance affiliate space (not required, but definitely a plus)
  • Familiarity with third-party tools that help automate compliance
  • Experience with third-party digital publishing tools, such as site scrapers, Google Analytics, Tableau, and publishing CMS’s such as WordPress and Wagtail.
  • Exposure to any of the following areas: Content and technical SEO best practices, personal finance knowledge, paid media, content syndication, or editing.
  • Familiarity with affiliate marketing strategies, including to collaborate with affiliate advertising partners and working with affiliate networks.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
