About Rive
Rive is where designers, animators, and developers build interactive experiences. Design, animate, and code in one place. What you build in the editor is what ships in your app, game, or website. No mockups, no prototypes, no handoff. The real thing.
Companies like Spotify, Duolingo, LinkedIn, Google, and Fortune 500 automakers use our open-source runtimes to build once and ship everywhere — websites, apps, games, and vehicles.
With Rive, designers and developers work with the same tools. No silos. What you see in the editor is what ships in production.
This “Dogfooding” Role
The team is seeking an experienced product UI engineer who can sit beside the editor team in S.F. build UI demos using Rive, while passing along feedback on how that process is going in real time to the Editor team (the team writing the Rive UI).
As one of the primary technical advocates for the end-user within the engineering organization, you’ll be experiencing the product as a user, identifying frustrations, suggesting improvements to user flows and interface design. You'll spend your time creating assets and in an iterative feedback loop with the Editor team, identifying pain points. You'll help define, evolve and champion the features that will make Rive the tool of choice for building interactive experiences.
By consuming the Rive editor you will build and maintain comprehensive examples of full experiences in Rive. This involves building UI frameworks and reusable component libraries/systems, implementing them, and creating examples to share with our customers. You’ll also work directly with customers explaining how to set up complex UI models.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Expertise using a tool similar to Rive (or Rive) with proficiency in other UI frameworks, existing UI tools and their limitations (this breadth is more important than design ability)
- Someone with experience building and shipping functional UI components across the platforms Rive supports (game UI, vehicle UI, product UI, mobile UI, etc.)
- Previous experience building large UI systems, creating internal component libraries and design systems, proficiency in connecting the visual elements of the UI to the underlying data and logic.
- A deep understanding of complex menu systems. This is someone focused on product UI, with strong game like creativity.
- The skills of an experienced Designer who can code, or an Engineer who can design and a strong understanding of the other. If you’re a Designer you understand the output of an agent, how and when to use code to achieve results. If you’re an Engineer you have insight into the design process that includes complex layouts of rows, columns, and grids etc.
- Ability to identify and clearly articulate where the pain points are in the Rive product and how to action those. Ideally going a step further to prototype and test out solutions.
Nice to Have
- Experience with other UI frameworks (React, Flutter, WPF, Vue, etc.)
- The disposition to work with end users. You’ll share with them how to use Rive to accomplish their goals.
