About Us

Who We AreAt Left Field Labs, we turn complex concepts, emerging technologies, and often ambiguous challenges into irresistible experiences people can see, touch, and understand. Experiential moments where abstract ideas become clear, irressistible, and tangible.

Our positioning is simple:

We Make It Real.

We’re looking for a Creative Director who can do exactly that → shape bold ideas, tell the story that sells them, and lead — not dictate — teams to bring them to life.

Overview

THE WORK

This role sits inside our NEXT Pod, working across some of the most ambitious and creatively open territory in the industry:

  • Experiential environments — brand worlds, immersive spaces, permanent and touring installations
  • Themed entertainment — narrative environments, attraction concepts, destination experiences
  • Brand activations — moments that earn attention, build belief, and convert audiences into advocates
  • Interactive and technology-enabled work — experiences where the audience participates, not just observes

You’ll lead creative across the full arc: from early pitch and concept development through to final execution. That means being as sharp in a competitive pitch room as you are on a build site walkthrough.

Responsibilities

TABLE STAKES

There are fundamentals every Creative Director here must bring.

  • Great Work — A portfolio of ideas that live beyond the slide deck. Work that exists in environments, systems, installations, or interactions. Show us things that were actually built.
  • Pitch Leadership — You know how to shape and sell ideas in competitive environments. You understand what converts opportunity into business — and you can carry a room.
  • Storytelling — You craft narratives that capture attention, build belief, and move clients to act. From concept decks to client presentations, your work reads and performs.
  • Team Leadership — You elevate the people around you. Clear direction, strong taste, and the generosity to help others do their best work. Not a gatekeeper. A multiplier.
  • Taste & Clarity of Vision — You understand the difference between novelty and meaning, spectacle and substance. You push for both.

HANDS-ON CRAFT

This isn’t a role for someone who only directs from a distance.

We want someone who can get into the work — who can open a file, shape a frame, and contribute meaningfully to what’s on screen or in the room. Specifically, we’re looking for hands-on fluency in:

  • Graphic and/or digital design — Visual systems, spatial graphics, concept visualization, motion
  • 3D — Environmental modeling, spatial concept development, real-time rendering

Both is exceptional. One is the floor. Either way, your hands-on capability should show up in how you direct, how you review, and how quickly you help a team find the right answer.

THE QUESTION WE CARE ABOUT

AI is everywhere.

Clients use it. Teams use it. Partners use it. So do we.

The real question isn’t whether you use AI — it’s how you use it to gain an advantage.

We want to understand:

  • How AI expands your creative exploration
  • How it helps you uncover insights others miss
  • How it strengthens ideas instead of flattening them
  • How it accelerates thinking without outsourcing judgment

In short: How does AI make you a better Creative Director, not just a faster one? (or a lazier one.)

Qualifications

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Experience across two or more of the following areas will set you apart:

  • Experiential marketing and brand activations at scale
  • Themed entertainment, attraction design, or narrative environment development
  • Permanent or touring installations
  • Technology-forward or interactive experience design
  • Cultural moments; festivals, tentpoles, world’s fairs, fan experiences

We’re less interested in a single lane and more interested in someone who has genuine range  and the creative ambition to push further in each direction.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $150,000-$200,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Culver City, California. This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
