SALARY: $165k-$175k, commensurate with experience

WE ARE:

An agency of makers with deep expertise in solving creative, performance, production, and technology challenges. Our focus is on making better work, to help brands work better. We partner directly with clients to think big and design for reality. From marketing, branding & design to e-commerce builds or anything in between, thelab mixes inspiration and hard work to produce results that mean business. Based in NYC, we support partners globally, with a client roster that includes both startups and Fortune 500 companies, such as Tempur-Pedic, KaChava, Frito-Lay, Qdoba, Yamazaki, and Hyundai.

YOU ARE:

A storyteller who knows how to help brands and humans connect. You have an opinion.  A reasoned one.  And you communicate it with respectful candor.  You consider the “why” behind every piece of work to ensure we tell genuine stories for our clients.  You enjoy getting your hands dirty in the day-to-day as well as mentoring team members as they develop their craft.   You have the gift of being able to “zoom in and out” – thinking big picture while paying attention to details.

YOU HAVE:

  • 8+ years in marketing/advertising copywriting, preferably in a digital agency setting
  • 2+ years in a senior, creative-management role
  • Zero hubris. Plenty of (informed and respectful) opinions.
  • An exciting portfolio of work showcasing personal copywriting alongside strategy and the work of teams you’ve led
  • Experience managing and developing creative talent, particularly copywriters
  • Deep paid and organic social expertise, in at least 4 of the following: Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, X, YouTube, LinkedIn. Creator and Influencer experience are highly desired.
  • A working knowledge of and curiosity about AI tools
  • Positive energy and a communication style that inspires others.
  • The ability to sell ideas and creative strategies to other leaders internally and externally
  • Shoot experience--from script development, pre-pro, and talent direction, to overseeing VO record and final edit.
  • Maturity and empathy in difficult team situations, leading by example, providing solutions, and giving/receiving constructive feedback.
  • Grace after the 10th round: Some clients are easier than others. A big part of this job is being okay with client feedback and revisions.

YOU’ll DO:

  • Lead and inspire a team of copywriters, designers, and motion designers across a portfolio of client accounts.
  • Guide creative from big idea through execution, and iteration, providing clear, actionable feedback along the way.
  • Provide strategic insight on emerging trends and industry developments as they impact the social media landscape
  • Become an expert on our clients’ brands, goals, and competitive landscapes to develop creative campaigns that boost the brand reputation, engagement, and conversion.
  • Work closely with strategy to develop effective creative briefs that will give the internal team clear parameters while leaving room for unexpected solutions.
  • Create and optimize ad campaigns across paid and organic social for multiple clients
  • Foster 1-1 relationships with clients, acting as a trusted creative partner to senior-level marketing leaders
  • Strategize with internal team members to anticipate problems, analyze solutions, identify alternatives, and suggest recommendations.
  • Balance working across multiple projects and workstreams, and support creative team members in prioritizing their work as needed
  • People-wrangling—interviewing, coaching, planning, delegating, encouraging, problem-solving, high-fiving, reviewing, guiding, and managing —within the context of thelab’s people-first culture, policies, procedures, and of course, applicable laws.

WE WILL:

Be thrilled to have you!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
