Job Description SummaryThe Cost Analyst Team Leader will play a dual role, Functioning as a Cost Analyst on assigned projects and leading and developing a team of Cost Analysts. This position is crucial for executing defined cost analyst standard work, coaching team members on successful cross-functional mitigation plans, and onboarding newly hired Cost Analysts. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

The following activities will part of the responsibilities of the Cost Analyst Team Leader, including on multiple projects in parallel:

Essential Responsibilities

Cost tracking

  • Development of cost execution plans (e.g., cost curves) by functions

  • Run weekly and monthly detailed cost reports by project scope

  • Monitor budget line items on weekly basis and identify variances above a threshold that should be escalated for mitigation

  • Maintain budget version control to ensure agreed budget changes are updated in budget forecast

  • Work with budget owners to estimate Cost to Complete based on actual costs, commitment costs, and potential variation orders

  • Work with scheduler to ensure project schedule aligned with cost curves

  • Support Bill of Quantity (BOQ) quantity tracking tied to unit costs (vs budget and latest forecast)

  • Work with business to prepare for PMR reviews on quarterly/bi-annual basis

  • Monitor/track CTC spend/release - leading indicators

  • Provide feedback to Sales/ITO/IPM on lessons learned for future bids/budgets - current gap

Minimize leakage and protect project margin
  • Run risk & opportunity analysis
  • Monitor project risks and follow up on action plans

  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses on estimating headwinds cost implications

  • Identify root cause of cost overruns and suggest mitigation plans

  • Partner cross functional to execute mitigation plans

Change order & Claim analysis support
  • Coordinate functional estimates for change order cost
  • Track variance to budget of approved change orders (actual vs planned spend)

Process management & set up
  • Support creation & implementation of new cost controlling mechanism & structure
  • Execute process improvement actions

  • Identify operational rhythm and coordinate functional alignment

Team leadership and development
  • Ensure team conducts detailed cost analysis on assigned projects, aligned with project budgets and objectives.

  • Lead and mentor assigned Cost Analysts, focusing on the execution of standard work practices and effective cost management strategies.

  • Develop and implement cross-functional mitigation plans at the portfolio level to address cost challenges and optimize project outcomes.

  • Facilitate onboarding and training for newly hired Cost Analysts, ensuring seamless integration into the team.

  • Collaborate with Pole and Functional Managers to drive cost optimization and achieve margin targets.

  • Monitor and report on cost performance, providing insights and recommendations to project stakeholders.

  • Provide input to the Pole Leader regarding team member performance during mid-year and annual review touchpoints.

  • Assess individual team member contributions and development needs, offering insights for performance evaluations and growth plans.

  • Collaborate with the Pole Leader to ensure alignment between team objectives and organizational goals during performance review cycles.

  • Support the establishment of clear performance metrics and objectives for team members, enhancing accountability and professional development.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, or a closely related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Cost Management, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field.

  • A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., PMP, CCP, SSBB, CMA, CPIM, PE, FE) is preferred.

  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in these fields may be considered.

Desired Characteristics

Professional Experience:

  • Extensive experience in cost analysis and management within a manufacturing environment, ideally in the heavy-duty gas turbine sector.

  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously with effective cost tracking and budget management.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in financial modeling, cost tracking software, and project management tools.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop cost execution plans and conduct risk and opportunity analyses.

Leadership and Management:

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience in mentoring and developing high-performing teams.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and implement cross-functional mitigation plans effectively.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and functional managers.

  • Experience in providing feedback and insights during performance evaluations and review cycles.

Process Improvement and Strategic Thinking:

  • Experience in developing and implementing new cost controlling mechanisms and process improvement actions.

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to identify root causes of cost overruns and suggest actionable mitigation plans.

Performance Management:

  • Ability to assess team member contributions and development needs, supporting the establishment of clear performance metrics and professional growth plans.

This role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute significantly to project success while leading a team dedicated to cost efficiency and strategic improvement in manufacturing projects.

Pay Transparency

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $114,100 - $190,200 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for 15% performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity.​

*The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
