We are seeking a highly experienced Corporate Legal Advisor – Consultant specializing in patent law and intellectual property (IP) rights. This consultancy role requires an expert in patent searches, filings, prosecution, and enforcement, with a proven track record of securing high-quality patents. The ideal consultant will provide strategic legal guidance on patent-related matters, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations while helping protect the company’s intellectual property assets.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive patent searches to assess the patentability of inventions and identify potential conflicts.
- Provide expert consultation on drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications with the USPTO and international patent offices.
- Analyze existing patents, conduct freedom-to-operate (FTO) searches, and provide strategic advice on patent risks and opportunities.
- Advise on patent portfolio management and IP strategy to enhance business value.
- Collaborate with R&D, product development, and engineering teams to identify patentable inventions.
- Offer legal counsel on patent licensing, infringement issues, and IP litigation when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and international IP laws, including patent renewals and maintenance.
- Review and draft patent-related agreements, including NDAs, technology transfer agreements, and licensing contracts.
- Stay updated on evolving patent laws, industry trends, and regulatory changes to safeguard the company’s IP interests.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed attorney in the USA, preferably registered with the USPTO (Patent Bar Certification).
- 5+ years of experience in patent law, with a strong focus on patent searches, prosecution, and litigation.
- Proven track record of successfully identifying, filing, and defending high-quality patents.
- Experience working in technology, AI, fintech, biotech, or related industries is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct complex patent searches and prior art analysis.
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide legal advisory services on a consultancy basis.
- Familiarity with international IP laws and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) process.
- Experience with M&A, corporate contracts, and compliance in addition to patent law.
- Background in engineering, computer science, biotechnology, or a related technical field.
- Experience handling IP litigation and working with external legal firms.
