Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Corporate Counsel, Employment Law to join our Legal Team based in Minneapolis, MN! This position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a fast-paced, dynamic Legal Department supporting Chewy's Corporate and Healthcare teams with respect to employment and labor law.
The successful candidate will be a strategic advisor and hands-on problem solver, providing practical, business-oriented day-to-day employment law advice and counseling to HR professionals and business managers regarding Corporate, Customer Care, and Pharmacy employees. This position requires a proactive approach and close collaboration with human resources and, other business stakeholders, and the other attorneys in the Legal Department.
What You'll Do:

  • Partner with HR professionals and other business stakeholders to act as a trusted legal adviser, providing advice and counseling on multi-jurisdictional employment laws, including, but not limited to, wage/hour compliance; leaves of absence and accommodations; drug testing and background screenings; discrimination; and retaliation.
  • Advise HR professionals on emerging legislative and regulatory changes affecting employment and labor obligations in multi-jurisdictional operations.
  • Review and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and deliver proactive training to business leaders on a wide variety of employment law matters.
  • Provide legal representation and/or supervise outside counsel regarding employment litigation, government administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and state/local agencies) as well as attorney demand letters and claims involving employment-related concerns.
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related documents including separation agreements and restrictive covenant agreements.
  • Partner with and advise HR professionals regarding internal investigations, as well as compensation, ERISA, and immigration matters.


What You'll Need:

  • JD from an accredited school with strong academic credentials.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience practicing employment law, in-house and/or with a national or regional law firm.
  • Significant experience in identifying employment law risks and formulating strategies regarding same, as well as in providing practical, timely, and solution-oriented advice and counseling to business clients at various levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and develop practical solutions that mitigate legal risks and align with business objectives.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility in keeping with the level of experience in employment law.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills. This position requires fast-paced multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and manage multiple issues involving business partners in various locations.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state and ability to become licensed as in-house counsel in Florida.
  • Candidate should possess empathy, excellent professional judgment, and a good sense of humor.
  • The position may require occasional travel.

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
Pay Range
$107,000-$199,000 USD
