About the role

The EHS Specialist will support Riot’s Environmental, Health, and Safety programs by promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and partnering with operations, construction, contractors, and leadership teams to identify hazards and reduce risk. This role will conduct safety inspections, update and deliver safety training, support incident investigations, maintain safety documentation, and help drive continuous improvement across site operations. This position requires working the swing shift, with hours from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM.


What you'll do

  • Conduct routine safety walks, field inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor construction, electrical, operations, maintenance, site customer and contractor activities for compliance with OSHA requirements, NFPA 70E expectations, environmental, company policies, and site-specific procedures.
  • Support the implementation of safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined space, hot work, powered industrial trucks, fall protection, machine guarding, emergency response, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Educate by Coaching employees, contractors, and field personnel on safety standards, hazard recognition, risk controls, and safe equipment operation.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, safety stand-downs, emergency drills, and other awareness activities to strengthen safety engagement.
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses, pre-task plans, permits, and work plans to verify that hazards are identified and appropriate controls are in place before work begins.
  • Assist with incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations; help identify root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Track corrective actions to closure and partner with supervisors and operations leaders to resolve safety deficiencies.
  • Maintain safety records, training documentation, inspection reports, safety metrics, and other EHS program documentation.
  • Support contractor safety management by participating in orientations, safety meetings, field reviews, and performance follow-up.
  • Provide practical recommendations to improve workplace safety, reduce risk exposure, and support an incident-free work environment.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when work activities present an imminent risk or do not comply with established safety requirements.
  • Perform other related EHS duties as assigned.


What you'll bring

  • 3+ years of experience in safety, construction safety, industrial operations, Bitcoin mining, data center operations, fabrication, manufacturing, utilities, or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, Construction Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA general industry and/or construction standards.
  • Ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of incident investigation methods, root cause analysis, Job Hazard Analysis, permit-to-work systems, and safety performance metrics such as TRIR, DART, near misses, and corrective action closure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and digital safety documentation tools.
  • Strong communication, coaching, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and follow up on action items.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employees, site customers, contractors, supervisors, and management teams.
  • Comfortable working in field environments and communicating with both frontline employees and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to support a culture where safety, operational excellence, accountability, and teamwork are priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour certification for General Industry or Construction.
  • NFPA 70E electrical safety training or experience supporting electrical safety programs.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Professional safety certification or progress toward certification, such as ASP, GSP, CSHO, OHST, CHST, or CSP.
  • Experience with high-voltage, medium-voltage, or low-voltage electrical work environments.


Physical requirements and work environment 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods 
  • Ability to lift and move equipment as needed (50 pounds) 
  • Ability to work onsite in a mining or data center environment (heat, noise, etc.) 
  • Exposure to high noise levels and varying temperatures 


Safety Requirements 

  • PPE & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all site safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots). 
  • Hazard Awareness: Proactively identify, report, and mitigate potential workplace hazards or unsafe conditions. 
  • Standards: Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety training. 
  • Organization: Keep all work areas clean and free of obstructions to prevent workplace accidents.
