What You’ll Get To Do

We are seeking a Founding Accountant to build and own the accounting function from the ground up. This role is both hands-on and strategic. You will establish the financial backbone of the company and partner closely with leadership to enable scale.

Build the Accounting Foundation

  • Establish accurate and timely monthly close process

  • Own the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management

  • Implement accrual accounting, including expenses, prepaid assets, and fixed assets

  • Clean up and maintain a reliable, audit-ready balance sheet

Inventory, Revenue, and Cost of Goods Sold

  • Build systems to track inventory (robots and seafood), yield, shrinkage, and SKU-level profitability

  • Partner with operations to establish reliable COGS and gross margin reporting

  • Reconcile sales to cash and ensure revenue accuracy

  • Develop standard costing frameworks, including yield, labor, and overhead allocation

Systems and Infrastructure

  • Evaluate and lead migration from QuickBooks to a scalable ERP system

  • Implement systems for inventory and cost accounting

  • Build cost center tracking and reporting structures

  • Ensure data integrity between operations and finance systems

Process and Controls

  • Design and implement scalable processes across order-to-cash and procure-to-pay cycles

  • Build inventory tracking and reconciliation processes

  • Introduce internal controls and audit readiness standards

  • Reduce AR aging and improve cash collection discipline

Multi-Entity and Scaling Complexity

  • Build multi-entity reporting and consolidation processes

  • Implement intercompany accounting and transfer pricing frameworks

  • Prepare the company for future audited financial statements

  • Support scaling into manufacturing and plant operations

What You’ll Need

  • 5–10+ years of accounting or finance experience

  • Strong GAAP foundation

  • Experience in at least one of the following: manufacturing, inventory-heavy business, or food / perishable goods / CPG

  • Proven ability to build accounting processes from scratch

  • Deep understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting (standard costing and variances), and revenue recognition

Bonus Points If You Have

  • ERP implementation or migration experience

  • Multi-entity and consolidation experience

  • Experience in high-SKU, high-volume environments

  • Familiarity with yield-based production systems

What This Role is Not

  • This is not a passive “close the books” accounting role.

  • This is not purely audit or technical accounting work

  • This is not a narrowly scoped position—you will architect the function

Why This Role is Unique

  • You will be the first true accounting leader in the company

  • You will directly shape how finance operates as the business scales

  • You will work on complex real-world operational and financial problems

  • This role can grow into Controller, VP Finance, or CAO over time

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
