What we're seeking:

At Sound Agriculture, we are building something meaningful—combining science, technology, and agriculture to drive real-world impact. This role offers the opportunity to shape the financial foundation of a scaling business and contribute directly to its lasting success.

The Controller oversees accounting, financial reporting, and core financial operations at Sound Agriculture. This role is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while strengthening internal controls, managing cash flow, and supporting the company’s continued growth and product scaling.

This position is a key partner to the Sr. VP, Finance & Operations,  leadership team, Board, and relevant external partners, helping build scalable processes and providing financial insight to support decision-making in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Lead month-end close and prepare timely, accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP for the U.S. and Latin America subsidiaries
  • Oversee financial reporting, including internal management reporting and investor deliverables
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls and compliance processes
  • Own cost accounting and product margin analysis, including inventory reconciliation across partners and systems
  • Manage audit coordination, working closely with external auditors and supporting audit readiness
  • Oversee ERP and financial systems (NetSuite, Ramp), including integrations and process optimization
  • Supervise Accounts Payable (Ramp), Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Credit & Collections
  • Manage banking relationships and cash operations
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. statutory tax requirements (income, sales & use, property, etc.)
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations to support inventory and materials flows
  • Collaborate with FP&A on forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning
  • Partner with the Sr. VP, Finance & Operations to build and improve scalable accounting processes and reporting infrastructure
  • Support managing the Company’s equity program through Carta
 Team & Reporting Structure
  • Reports directly to the CFO
  • Manages one direct report and oversees international accounting services providers
  • Remote role within the United States
  • Expected travel: ~5%

 Targeted Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Finance/Accounting
  • CPA required; Big 4 experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience building controls and accounting processes in growth-stage companies
  • Deep technical accounting expertise with strong operational execution
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Ramp (required)
  • Experience with systems integration (NetSuite, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Background in cost accounting, inventory, or product-based environments preferred (agriculture, biotech, or similar industries)
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with ability to adapt and reprioritize quickly
 Compensation Target
  • Base Salary: $160,000 – $185,000
  • Bonus Target: 20%
  • Equity: Competitive, above industry standard
