The Controller will establish and scale Valar Atomics' accounting infrastructure, ensuring compliance and accuracy while building a team. Responsibilities include managing accounting functions, supporting fundraising, and preparing for audits.
The Controller will establish Valar Atomics’ accounting foundation from scratch and scale it into an airtight, audit-ready system as the company grows. This is not a caretaker role; it’s a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up builder position for someone excited to operate at startup speed while implementing public-company-grade rigor.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Finance, President, CEO, and functional heads to ensure our books, processes, controls, and systems support rapid growth, major capital projects, and future fundraising.
What You’ll Own
- Build and lead Valar’s accounting function, including GL, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, revenue accounting, and month-end close.
- Implement accounting systems, workflows, controls, and documentation for a high-complexity hardware + regulated industry environment.
- Drive a clean, reliable monthly close with high accuracy.
- Partner with engineering and operations on inventory systems, cost accounting, CapEx tracking, and program-level accounting.
- Prepare audit-ready financial statements and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements (and get our first audits completed).
- Support fundraising, board reporting, tax preparation, and external audits.
- Build and lead a small but mighty accounting team over time.
Who You Are
- A detail-obsessed, high-ownership accounting leader with the ability to operate hands-on while designing scalable systems.
- Highly knowledgeable in GAAP, cost accounting, inventory, and hardware/manufacturing accounting.
- Comfortable in high-velocity, high-ambiguity startup environments.
- Someone who takes pride in accuracy, discipline, and operational excellence even when the environment is chaotic.
